anyone have knowledge of carhire in Phuket we are there from 11th - 16th April should we hire at the airport or do anyone know if it's cheaper to hire an off airport car and have it delivered to airport and have it collected from there when we finish?

I've only hired directly at the airport using Avis. It was about 1200 a day for an automatic Toyota Soluna about 2 or 3 years ago. Chose them for convenience (already at the airport, no organising to do) and the reassurance of a large international company with cars in good condition and with real insurance. Had previous bad experiences with poorly maintained cars from Thai companies.
