Oman Air have been in business, for some 7 years, they started to fly from Muscat to London last November, and started flying from Muscat to Bangkok in January this year.

Never flown them so can't comment on that, but I don't think I'd want to stay in transit for 5 hours, as their timetable seems to suggest. It's a small airport and the terminal is OK for a couple of hours, but that's about it, unless it's been upgraded since I was there a few years ago ....

looking here www.omanairports.com you can get a free 24 hour visa from the airline, and Muscat town is about 30 minutes away by taxi - there's a wonderful old souq that's well worth a walk around if you are there during the day.

UPDATE - looking at the link above there's some info about Muscat airport, and it would appear that it has been upgraded - phew, things are looking better for your mate.

Oh, and the scuba diving is spectacular, but unfortunately not from the departure lounge ....

Hope this helps

I flew with Oman air in january the first leg was in a old boeing 767 , still had ashtrays in the seats and the food was pretty poor. We were given a meal voucher at the terminal again the food was bland. The second leg was in a Airbus 320 as we approched the plane in the transfer coach the plane was overfilled with jet fuel pooring out the wing onto the tarmac, the ground crew looked at the spill then the coach full of passengers scrached there heads then allowed us to board the plane. ( small detour around the spill Confused).

Never ever again.

Terrible outfit, we flew with them last x.mas. The worst flight I'd had for years. Much the same as others have descibed. Never, never, never again.

Just returned, last week with BA. Not used them for a while, came to the conclusion that allthough the room and service were average...there was a better class of passenger! Which is important when you are intemate for 11 hours!
