This will be a new one for me and I couldn't find anything already written?

So we land at approx. 4pm on a Saturday and head towards immigration - do I queue whilst Ooy waltzes through, do we both queue, or can I go through with the good lady?

What would be a reasonable price to pay for a taxi to the wrong end of Sukhumvit (soi77)?

Thanks.

Caller,

When we last went to Suvarnaboom (can't spell it) one queue for non Thai and one for Thai's same as DM and I tried to go with Dao but was sent back with frowns and joined the back of a queue of Koreans who had just landed on a 747 which added at least an hour till baggage Bah!

What would be a reasonable price to pay for a taxi to the wrong end of Sukhumvit (soi77)?

Don't know that one but we paid THB800 to go to Bangrak? (Silom) note! I kept out of sight till we had a cab from the desk on the ground floor and when directed to the cab I appeared and the driver looked at me with Roll Eyes LOL
so don't know if good price or not (perhaps if good they are not used to farang appearing at the last minute)

Have a good one!
Regards

Manfarang - thanks.

I guess the worst that can happen is being sent to another queue?

Colin - thanks as well, but for that price I would expect a limo!

Or have I been away from LOS to long?

Caller, same as Manfarang for me - always go with the good lady and have never had a problem.

As for a taxi - got one in January by sneaking to the drop off point and paid about 3-400 to Sukhumvit

Caller

Depends on whether you want to get to your destination or get "ripped" as they are not supposed to pick up there"

Anyway when I go to LOS I do everything legit (even if more baht) and to a farang my price to Simon's + THB400 = £6.50 approx extra is neither here nor there for your safety as the registered ones have a log of who and where they go to eliminate the bad taxi's

But one question I don't know how far your destination in BKK to Silom if miles fair enough but I don't think so.

Anyway let me know
Regards

Quite happy to report on the price, and for safety, as a farang alone, based on experience of 1st ever visit (booked hotel not available, yeah right - how silly do I look? plus the nasty's that were being reported), I've always taken a limo, about 700k from the old airport.

But I'll be with Ooy this time, she will do the talking, with or without sneaking to the departutes area, we were thinking of about 350/400 baht.

Not sure where Silom enters into this?

I think you'll find the trip from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Sukhumvit 77 a very short one. What you call "the wrong end of Sukhumvit" is actually nearer the new airport. In fact Soi 77 runs almost directly to the airport. Suggest you look at a recent map. There's probably one on line somewhere. Your price is probably a good guess. If Ooy doesn't know how close it really is, then keep your eye on her. Have a good time. Dave.

Thanks everyone.

ddwjg - my comment was somewhat tongue in cheek! I'm used to staying in Soi5, usually the boulevard or Bel-Aire. We're staying at a hotel on Soi77 for a couple of nights simply for it's proximity to a huge carrefour (apparantly) to get goodies for Ooy's family, before heading to Korat.

Michael - I'll pm you my mobile number.

Well I have seen farangs sent back so would never try it myself, Thai immigration officers always seem to be Jobs worth type people, the taxi should be no more than four hundred bt ,I always go up stairs to departures and catch a taxi dropping someone off, it beats queuing in arrivals.

At Don Muang foreign spouses of Thai nationals were always allowed to accompany them through the Thai channels.

Take a public taxi meter from one of the desks outside arrivals, sometimes they may tell you a fare ( 500 baht ok?) and even write it on back of the official slip. This is a scam and lets the driver know you have been given an off meter fare. Just insist on meter as it is illegal for the driver to go off meter anywhere downtown Bangkok. You will be liable for 50 baht airport surcharge plus any highway tolls on top of meter reading. (although the airport surcharge is due to be scrapped soon). Usual meter fare to Bangrak is around 300 baht.

It's quite amazing to note the differing experiences just for queueing at immigration and taking a taxi to town!

Almost makes you wonder if we've all been travelling to the same place?

Anyway, many thanks and I'll post in due course about what we paid!

Yes indeed, I pay 1000 baht to travel from the airport all the way to Ban Pong in Rachetaburi and only 350 to 400 baht to Silom Centre BKK.
I have gone through Passport control accompanying my wife without being turned back and last December was actually called forward with her when they thought I was holding back.

this, or up to 50 baht more in traffic, is what i'd expect to pay from suvarnabhumi airport to soi 77. 150 baht from upstairs departures section (no 50 baht surcharge) to abac university area in ramkhamhaeng is my experience. just state ur destination authoritatively to the driver, who'll probably use the meter automatically, since he's not supposed to pick up from departures and will be keen to exit quickly. this has been the case for me every time when going from suvarnabhumi (not always when going to suvarnabhumi, since some drivers don't want to go to the airport, but that's a different story).

here is a website link to on nut guesthouse (on soi 89), which states that the airport fare is from 140 baht (two minutes' motorcycle ride from on nut skytrain station) via on nut road (soi 77). this guesthouse even asks guests not to use the 850 baht "limos".

I followed a single English chap to the Thai only desk on arrival at Bangkok airport. He was quickly turned back to the non-Thai desks.
The chap on the Thai desk was just about to say the same to me and my Thai wife appeared from behind my ample frame ! He totally changed his stance and we went straight though without any hassle... only to wait 1 hour for the bags. So you do not really gain much other than being able to get a chair at luggage reclaim.
Taxi. Go to the official taxi rank as other have posted above. On the meter and paying for the Express Tolls I think it was around 350 Baht to Silom road. Bargain.
