casey the don muang taxis always did use meters and charge 50 baht extra (plus expressway tolls if u chose that option), so no change there. the overall total to khao san road would never be more than 300 to 350 baht. for 600 baht, are u actually talking about the limousine service that u book at the counter? ian.

The difference in car types and the not wondering where you are security between limo and meter are well worth the extra baht IMHO (remember this is approx GBP8.50!)which considering what UK taxi's charge is a bargain! Limo's are also a good start to your hols! (my Thai lady disagree's of course) colin 244 PS been ripped by meters too often!

i tried the ae3 express bus for 150 baht from outside the terminal (no need for shuttle bus) to on nut bts station during the friday evening rush-hour after my tg917 flight. the traffic was an absolute nightmare and i shan’t be doing that again! for anyone going to the ramkhamhaeng area, the taxi ride takes twenty minutes and costs about 135 baht if u take the travelators to the departure level where the taxis are dropping off passengers. taking a taxi to the airport via my hotel, i was unlucky. i asked the driver to wait for me while i checked out at the hotel. once we had started moving, guessing that i was in a hurry, he suddenly announced that he wasn’t going to use the meter! i eventually bargained him down from 500 baht (including the 91 baht already on the meter) to meter plus 100 baht. i'm sure he still managed to diddle me by taking a round-about route... ian.

Still Checking In

|
As a guideline from our experience:-
We travelled by taxi from the new airport to Soi 5 Sukhumvit Road on Saturday afternoon, using the tolls, cost was 170 baht on meter, 60 baht toll and 50 baht for "Airport pickup fee", total 280 baht, the journey took 30 minutes. The "limos" at the Airport were 800 to 900 baht for the same journey.
On Sunday morning 10am, we did the same back, hotel wanted 500 baht (no way), driver asked for 300 baht (little better, but still no way), meter wanted 190 baht, driver didn't use the tolls and the journey was still 30 minutes, we gave 250baht when arrived at the airport.
