Just booked with Qatar direct for a Jan 2009 departure to BKK, the price was £655.40 Inclusive of tax.
This was from Manchester.

We normally book early but because of the risk of other carriers following the Thai fuel increases We decided that the sooner the better we got our tickets the better.

Regards Harvey

Cheers for that Harvey. It's a good price! I've been using THAI the last few trips...but like you say, they're getting damn expensive.
Have you flown with Qatar before?

Hi Mal
yes many times and always consistantly good.
However I also look on the web for anything that may be cheaper but must be at the same quality level.

The only time that I consider Heathrow is if there are longer stopovers on flights from Manchester

Just had a letter that has made me not to happy.

Booked Eva for crimbo at a cost of £990 for Elite class. Paid deposit of £175 and balance due in Oct. I have always done the above (except usually economy).

Letter yesterday said that if I do not pay the whole balance now, then I can expect a fuel surcharge to be added in the next few weeks. Don't know how much nut nonetheless I booked a flight that I can barely afford for £990. I paid a deposit in good faith and now I am being told it will cost me more.

Derren

ps Did not have a bad word to say against Eva before but the last two years they are starting to go down in my estimation and now are as expensive if not more than most other carriers.

Hello Dave sorry for the delay in replying

When I booked my Qatar flight I looked through all the sites ETC and did not see Opodo.
Where do they operate from ?

I think you will find this applies to ALL airlines in that you are subject to any increases until such time as the ticket is paid in full.
I booked Eva in Feb for 6th Dec for 1 month @ £642.60 (cattle class) but paid in full to avoid the rising oil situation (but then I always pay in full just so it is out of the way).

Dave/Wan, Manchester incurs a stop over where Eva/Heathrow does not hence the cheaper price.
I also looked at Emirates but could only find 8 hour stopover so prefer to pay the higher price than sit around that long.

We have a 2hour 45 minutes stopover at Dubai coming and going,so not bad at all.But oh for the joys of one day when an airline decides to fly direct to Bangkok from Manchester.

That's good, sadly not available when I booked mine (only 8 hours for whatever reason).
I'm still not sure what I prefer, stop off or direct. Each has it's own merits but with you on the wish list for directs from Manchester and even better for me from Birmingham at least get the choice instead of the trek to Heathrow.

Hi, I do this flight 3 times a year and so do most of my friends, so far Etihad are doing well they are on a par with Emerites for quality, but they are slightly cheaper, the cheapest Ive found is Bangledash airways whom toted my friend to some unheard of place near Kashmir and when they took of again to Heathrow the Pilot asked them all to sit at the back as it would easier for them to take off ( not sure if he's pulling my leg on that ) however 190 quid !! I saw the ticket!
Pity Oasis have folded they were 199 quid one way Manchester to Hong Kong then 30 quid on Thai air from Maccau to Bkk.

Also Sri Lankan does a very reasonable flight with a nightly stop on the beach at Cylon worth checking that out also

I have a company here called contactbangkok it's an online database of companies here huge stats cos everyone lists for free so if you have business concerns here in L.O.S list yourself for free on that.

Cheers

We too booked on QATAR for a flight out on 6 Dec to come back on 1st Jan from Heathrow for £567 each. Booked flight on 13 July but just received a letter saying they have changed details now have delay at Doha on the return journey of 5 hours instead of 40 minutes given on booking.
Booked it with Dial A Flight.

i don't know why dial-a-flight booked a 40-minute connection. it's simply not feasible on an intercontinental flight and the systems of many airlines don't allow it.

I just booked 3 tickets on Finnair from Zurich to Bangkok in November 20th-Nov returning 4th December for 2334 CHF that approx 1200 stg.

They seem to have cheap flight from the uk around those dates too

ash

For those who can't find the same fares please note that the available seats at this price vanished in about 30 minutes for my original travel dates. The prices direct from Finnair were cheaper than ebookers etc

I have also booked Qatar 5th December to the 30th December and paid about £500 each. (£1350 for two adults and a 7 year old) I made the booking about three monhts ago and always pay by credit card and clear the balance over the next few months as i can then start saving up for spending money. i was worried about getting hit by a fuel surcharge, but from what has been said already, I ahould be safe. Which is great news. I used Opodo this time and was hit by a credit card charge, which I have not paid before when booking with Ebookers.

If the flights keep getting more expensive i for one will be cutting down my number of trips.

The Finnair flights I booked today are the cheapest flights I have ever seen from Zurich to BKK over the past 10 years, historically the cheapest tickets are about 1200 chf today they were only 797 chf including taxes etc.

Finnair have flights to Hong Kong ex Manchester via Helsinki Oct08 to March09 for less than £400.00 Why not spend a couple of days in HK then get Air Asia ex Macau for around £80.00 return to Bangkok .
