Got this email today

Dear Member,

A reminder that you have 2007 expiring miles that must be redeemed by June 30, 2008.
Many awards can be redeemed online at www.thaiairways.com/rop or call your local THAI office.
Redeem today, don't lose your miles!

Best regards,

Royal Orchid Plus

Any idea what I can do with only 2007 miles....? Not much I think, had a look on their website but can't seem to use them for anything. Just wondering if anyone on here wants them, is that possible to transfer them over ?

There is an online shop, at the following linkThai Airways online shop although there doesn't appear to be much under 6000 miles. I had a similar problem with expiring Thai airmiles in December, and at the time they had an option of donating the miles to support one of the King's charities. I can't see that option now, but it might be worth sending Thai an e-mail asking can you still donate to charity.

As I've had an identical email,I think you'll find it's the airmiles you actually accrued in 2007,not 2007 airmiles...

do u really have so few miles? if u take the cheapest return flight on THAI from london to bangkok, then u earn 5,934 miles (more expensive economy class flights earn 11,868). i therefore expect u to have either 5,934 miles or 11,868.

9,000 miles is enough for a one-way flight within thailand.

if u're just short of an award, then u can pay usd 30 to top-up with an extra 1,000 miles. even so, u might not want to pay usd 30 for an umbrella!

if u fly with THAI in future but expect ur flights not to be frequent, then an alternative to royal orchid plus is to open a bmi diamond club account and put the miles from ur THAI flights in ur bmi diamond club account. this is because bmi miles earned from flights do not expire (though there is a chance that bmi might change this in future).

Ian, does this not depend on what class seat you purchase within Economy (W X Y Z etc)? I am sure I earned a lot less than that with my 5 or 6 flights with Thai as I did not have that much when mine expired some years ago, only solution was to tick the box to donate them to charity.

gary

it does depend on the booking class: up to 30/06/2008, V, W and G earn 50% miles, while other economy class flights earn 100%; from 01/07/2008, V, W and G earn no miles at all (but the latter cannot have been the case for u).

https://www.thaiair.com/Royal_Orchid_Plus/Earning_Award...lliance_airlines.htm

if u've never used ur miles to buy awards, then i can think of only two reasons why u might have had less than 5,934 miles: either u took the outbound V, W or G flight late one year and returned after the new year (giving 5,934 miles total, of which 2,967 miles expired first), or THAI somehow failed to add the miles to ur royal orchid plus account. i assume that royal orchid plus admin is fairly reliable, as the miles from my air canada flights are always added without any hitches.

You can buy hotel vouchers with airmiles from Thai Awards. These have a life of one year.Better do this than watch miles expire.
However I have heard that you cannot always get rooms in exchange for vouchers in high season.Hotels limit the availability. But the concept is good.
