Are we talking Thailand here? If so, they do run very occasional steam excursions, generally to Kanchanaburi but also sometimes to Lopburi. They still own several working steam locos - mainly ones left by the Japs after WW2! It could be something to do with the king's birthday, I suppose?

I am not a steam buff either, but the idea of steaming through the Thai countryside, Singha in hand, seems wonderful, and I always regret never getting the chance to do it while I lived there - working for the State Railway!

5/12 was the last day of the Bridge Over The River Kwai Festival, so that was it.

Yes, we saw it. Smiler

Actually it is two steam engines running back to back, as they can't turn them around anymore.

The special runs on the Kings birthday every year from Bangkok to Ayuthaya. Returning to BKK again in the afternoon.

We have pictures - courtesy of the misses as I was stuck behind the movie camera. Roll Eyes

Any closet steam train fans who want a copy of the movie, PM me and I will try and send a copy of it. Unfortunately you will have to wait until I am back in the UK, as the dial up connection here is pants.

Will be back in 3 months time. Yep, dog's life I know. Smiler
