I just browsed through airlinenetwork to see how prices had changed for the flight to Thailand that we booked in early february. To my dismay I found that we could have saved at least £300 if we had booked now. Frowner In February we paid £1388 for 2 tickets with Emirates during the summer holidays - now an Indian Airline called Jet Airways is offering tickets to bangkok via Mumbai at some £540 a piece for the same dates. I assume it must be a new route and more competition will hopefully mean cheaper tickets in the long run. It would be great if prosperous countries like China and India would begin to compete on these long distance routes just now when some of the hitherto cheap Middle Eastern routes seem to get more and more expensive ...

A couple of guys that I work with have flown with Jet to India. Both spoke highly of the airline, newish planes plus very good service on board.

I flew Jet Airways from Mumbai (Rhymes well with pigsty) to Bangalore, the flight and in flight service were excellent, but the airport at Mumbai was the pits.

Used a credit card payphone for a 1 minute call to Switzerland cost me 79 CHF.

Like Ash, I used Jet Airways for Mumbai, it was a nice new plane out, with screen back TV, seats were a little more cramped than on EVAs 777, but not too bad. Service was good, but had 2 problems: First was not to do with airline, but was Mumbai Airport, as Ash says, not nice and there are lots of people there wanting to fleece you and loads of people carrying guns, look like fellow passengers, but carrying a big as gun as they can possibly hold regardless of how old it might be. Second was for unknown reason upon arrival at the airport the flight was shown as cancelled and it was a nightmare trying to find out what was going on eventually escorted by 3 non english speaking armed guards to another terminal (this was in reality a hot walk outside with 3 boys carrying bren guns whilst dragging case over potholes). Eventually was put on an Air India 747 to London via Delhi! Took 18 hours to get back from India, with a long hot stopover in Delhi where wasn't allowed off the plane, air con off, cleaners on, heat rising, tired, no smoking, no entertainment, very old and uncomfortable plane, the worst I have been on, excluding the fact of the time on it!

I would hope this would be an exception, but unless I really had to, I would not go via Mumbai unless I was sure the stay there was very very short.
