Hi,
Now that Anna has her visa she will be travelling back to live with me in the UK with me on the 18th March. Of course, like most women, she has many clothes etc. that she wants to bring over. What are the options for transporting them to the UK? Is it worth just packing them into another suitcase (as well as the spare room in mine) and taking the hit on the excess baggage charge? We will be travelling with Etihad (I have the silver level on their guest programme, which allows me 30kg). All advice would be appreciated. |

With silver, you will be allowed whatever your ticket say's plus 10kgs. Anymore than that, and leave the stuff in LOS, to expensive to think about paying for extra, Also I'm not sure, but I think that the person travelling with you is allowed the same weight allowance as yourself, check allowances for silver level on Etihads website to be sure, but I think I am right. I'm there Bryn |

Perhaps you should also consider maximising your carry-on baggage. You are allowed one bag each (and decent sized ones too) in Coral class perhaps stuff those with clothing. They are supposed to be no heavier than 7kg but looking at what some people carry on you might just be lucky if you are a little over that.

If you have any contacts at the airport and/or airline, they will no doubt be able to help. Remember that TG handle ground services for a number of airlines at BKK so you don't necessarily have to by flying TG.
Failing that, you can ask if they will send your bags limited release. This basically means that if it goes missing or gets damaged, you can't get compensation. This used to work with EVA quite a often when I flew with them. Other options include sending it by excess baggage (not the airline's excess baggage though). Look for the excess baggage counter in the airport. Basically, they use spare capacity on other flights to send your baggage. Significantly cheaper than the airline but it usually arrives a few days later and you'll have to collect it yourself from the airport. Final option (and most expensive) is to use the airline's excess baggage. They will typically charge you 5KG irrespective of how much over you are (within reason). 1KG = 1% of unrestricted economy class single fare. Good luck. Packpao |

we travelled coral class in january, on the tickets it says 20 kg but we were told at check in if you have an onward flight then the allowance is 30kg, we had 3 cases coming back just under 30kg and no extra charge. agree with tobias about hand luggage some on the flight really pushed it.

Our experience flying out of Suvarnabhum back to Bahrain on various airlines is that the check in staff will only get upset if you are over the maximum bag weight, which is 32kg, you may have to take it to the oversize bag drop off.
I blamed it on the dried chillies I was carrying for my good lady This happened to me in January, but got away with no extra charges, just a slapped wrist for being over 32kg. They seem to be getting stricter with the carry on bag weight, you can probably push it to 9kg in economy, and they let me have a laptop bag, and my wheelie carry on.
