I just noticed that some fares on THAI have decresed quite a bit Smiler i booked to Sydney abt 6 weeks ago...an fare is now £300 cheaper. And i only paid a small deposit on flight, so booked again via Thai Airways website...still saving £200.

But, i made a mistake and booked it twice Bah! so now i have 3 flights to sydney hahaha

I looked a month or so ago and they wanted £1000 plus.

Booked a few weeks ago for £778.60.

Weaker demand has pushed oil prices to $113.50 a barrel, down 24 per cent in the past month.

So I would expect further price falls on air travel to follow.

Based on the above "weaker demand" I thought I would check how much it would be going out to BKK on TG over xmas i.e. 12 Dec to 11 Jan using cheapest fare. It was only 3,773.70 GBP !! (business out, economy in) Guess I’m going to loose my Thai frequent flier points this year!

You will pay more for flights that are nearer to Christmas. Picking the right time to actually buy your flight tickets is crystal balls stuff. Wink

If you have to have certain travel days then booking early makes sense, but you can usually get some good prices about 4 - 6 weeks before Christmas, if you are able to be a bit flexible with travel dates.

Most of what you pay at the pump is tax and yes you're right - that's not gone down. Shrug

Fuel Duty is currently 50.35 pence per litre for ultra-low sulphur unleaded petrol/diesel plus vat at 17.5% which gives you a tax of 59.16 per litre.

This figure only changes when the robbing b****** Chancellor of the Exchequer thinks he can milk us for some more and still keep his mates in a job.

There is VAT on the rest of the cost of the fuel as well.

Diesel was about 130p litre at it's peak around here and is about 122p litre now.

Total tax on 130p/litre is 69.71.
Total tax on 122p/litre is 68.52.

So not much change there then. LOL

Obviously the tax has not changed, but nevertheless the retail at-the-pump price has decreased from 117p/litre to 108p/litre,ergo 8%. Razzer

Greenheathen - I'd rather go to Thailand too...but it's ok, we're stopping off there for 3 weeks on the way back Cool

Going to Sydney to meet gf, who is studying there. Then back to TH together....then UK??? If visit visa goes ok....

As people said, flights after dec 12th are so much more expensive...i'm going on the 8th!

I thought the drop in fares would be due to oil prices, but very surprised how quickly these decreases have been passed down to customers. I guess it shows how the higher prices affected the market.
