We will be visiting Thailand in sept and plan to visit Krabi area for a week to ten days as the holiday part of the trip.
Jai, myself, and 1 and 4 year old daughters.
Can anyone recomend which area we could stay, looking for beach area with enough life to keep the kids occupied, our 4 year old loves resturaunts, markets, etc.
As for us grown ups, beach, views, food, beer, sunsets and enough life to people watch!
Been to samui and patong, but looking for something more relaxed this time as we will have a week in at jontiem and a week in Bangkok.

Also anyone know if it would be worth taking a travel fishing rod and fishing for supper around that area?

Thanks Dave

Mam and I have been twice to Ao Nang. It's touristy in the centre but good for the kids. Some nice resort-type developments within a few minutes walk of the centre. Boat trips etc.no problem. Worth the day trip across to Phi-Phi if you haven't already been.

We think Krabi much nicer than Samui/Phuket. Good choice.

There are many good hotels and places in Krabi. I with the family (2 adults, 2 kids) usually we stay in Amari Vogue Resort. We quite accept quality of service and the price.
And for children there are places where it is possible to take a walk, play and cheerfully to spend time. Do not find this message advertising.

Off all the places me and Poo have been to in Thailand, Krabi is my favorite. Ao Nang was great, and there are a great number of resorts around.

We stayed here

Very nice room. Excellent location.

There is a restuarant not far which has the best sunsets ever. I will post a few pics later if you are interested.

Well Ao Nang looks like it gets the vote.
Darren, the Somkiet Buri looks great, i take it we would be ok with a pushchair? and i assume its not far from the beach?

John, I had thought about trying somewhere on Phi Phi too but may find it difficult getting Jai and Charlene on the boat! would hate to book somewhere and get a point blank refusal at the pier!! I will work on a day trip when we are there!

Thanks guys

Dave

Somburi was about 5 mins from beach. The only letdown was the restuarant plus apparantly muslim owners so no alcohol was sold in the hotel or restuarant. It was no problem as fantastic restuarants nearby. And one in particular was only 5 mins on motorcycle taxi

Will upload some photos to photobucket in a short while.

What do you mean, no alcohol!!
I saw this on another site and was going to ask you if was a mistake.
A cold beer takes the edge off two over exited kids.
We are also looking at the Centara Grand Beach resort, which appears to be just round the corner from Ao Nang Beach, the down side appears to be that you need a boat trip to get to and from it. Therefor the hotel would have a captive market. Also getting the missus and kids and pushchair in and out of boats all day as well as paying afore mentioned boats may get a bit tiresome. (may need several cold beers to keep me going)
Anyone shed any light on the Centara from previous experience?

Try http://www.krabiheritagehotel.com/

I have stayed here twice and am staying again this year. It's a 2 min walk to the beach (you can also get a longtail to Railay from the beach 2 mins away) and there are loads of restaurants nearby and a small bar complex, the pool is great also.

I would agree that Ao Nang is a good place to stay. It's easy to get to other islands or Railay etc from there. Visit KR bar in Ao Nang too...great guys there.

Somkiet Buri...good rooms and pool etc, but the most unfriendly front desk staff EVER! Would recommend though.

If u ever need a doctor in Ao Nang, Dr Samboom (almost opposite Somkiet Buri) is recommended! And a nice guy!

Railay West at sunset for a couple of beers is a must.

Enjoy....

One of the nicest hotels I have stayed in was the Krabi La Playa. We have 2 children aged 4 & 7 and they loved the huge pools, the rooms were very large with showers that were the size of some hotel rooms ! the breakfast was awesome proper back bacon etc buffet style nice pool bar I think if you check sawadee.com the reviews should speak for themselves.
We were there last year and whilst the beach at Ao Nang is good the beach at Railay was better and just a 2 minute boat ride
Good Luck
