Off to Chang Mai soon. Can anyone help with some hotel recommendations? We have never been before.

Many thanks in anticipation.

What's your budget?

I recently stayed here:

http://www.amatalanna.com/

and it was fantastic, designed by the same people who did the Four Seasons.

Like staying with "friends" as there are only 12 (very large) rooms. After a tiring day out site-seeing you were greeted with a knock on the door and a plate of fruit.

Only bad thing was the bed was VERY hard and slight noise from the road when you're eating breakfast Smiler

I think I paid about £60 a night. Having spoken to the owner and her son, email them as I reckon they'll "do a deal" Wink

Suriwongse is very central and close to all facilites, cheaper is trigong B&B also v central and very good, Sofitel is great as always but expensive if you want pure luxury. Personally I like to walk out of hotel straight into the heart fo things.

What end of the market are you looking at? If it's the cheaper (somewhere to lay your head) end, the Downtown Inn isn't bad (c. 1000B per night) - big rooms (usual air con, tv etc) and a modest swimming pool. Very close to the night bazaar etc..

I used to stay at the Top North Hotel near Tapae Gate. Better swimming pool, and about 800-900B. Only problem is that they have a telephone on each floor for the cleaners that seems to ring constantly from about 6am each morning!

If you're going to be there during Songkran, some places will bump up the rates for the main days. Also, it can be difficult to get accomodation during this time as Chiang Mai is arguably the best place to do Songkran, so it is probably worth booking ahead..

Rob.

Saiyon,

If you have not booked yet try looking at Chiang Mai Orchid which was a very good reasonably priced hotel and only a short taxi ride from the airport and the night bazar etc (when we went there was a free bus fom the airport to the hotel) and their swimming pool deserted most days if thats your thing.

Anyway enjoy your trip its our favourite city in LOS and plenty to do in the area.

Hi Saiyon, how about giving us an account of where you stayed and what you did as you had "a great time" I for one would be interested. Haven't stayed in Chiang Mai since 2001 and then whilst on a trek to the National parks. I stayed with friends in a guest house owned by one of the friend's mother for the night and the mother took all 10 of us out to dinner!!
Great memories.
