There are 2 hotels on or around Soi 8 both called the Eastiny. What is the new one (painted yellow opposite the Flipper) called?

Mark

Both are in Soi 8.

I have stayed at Eastiny Place which is at the Second Road end of Soi 8.

Nok believes that the one opposite Flipper Lodge is also called Eastiny Place (I am not sure).

Not sure if that helps you out?

To be pedantic Mark, there are 3 Eastinys around soi 8,4 if you count the Bella Vista in the cut through between sois 7/8,as it's part of the same group.

None however are opposite either Flipper.
There is the "Eastiny on soi7" down from Flipper House near the Pig and Whistle/Rosie O'Gradys.

The Eastiny Place is 2nd Rd end of Soi 8,further up from the Sunshine on the right hand side.

The Eastiny Inn is further down soi 8 and does have a yellow side. From the Flipper Lodge turn right up the soi, past Chaloas Bar (you remember that Mark) and when you get to Eastiny Travel on the left(bit of a give away) turn left and you are in their car park outside the main door. If you go past the 7/11 on the left you've overshot and certainly if you get to Cherry Bar on the right you need to turn back.

Just to complicate things further a new Eastiny is being built where Shark Bar stood-I don't know the name yet though.

The ownership of the Prince has also been confirmed by the Court, but I believe so far has retained the name and is not becoming another "mike" hotel.

Steve,
Cheers, that's the one i'm thinking of, it's the new one (built about 3 years ago) painted bright yellow about 10 odd stories high with balconies. Looks not a bad hotel.

Here?

Steve,
Actually i'm looking at this hotel as my first choice The Flipper on Soi 8 is having some renovations done and will not have any sea view rooms for my stay. Still, they will do me a city view room for 800 baht but I don't know if there will be alot of building work being done.

Cannot go too far away as Thad wouldn't know where to find me. Eeker

Mark, word of warning from the wife, apparently very noisy there because of the music. OK if your an "all night" owl.
The Eastiny Place (at the end of Soi 8 is OK though as a bit away from it). Only downside, no sea view and about 900 bhat last time I stayed there (a year ago).

Gary,
Thanks for the warning but i'm quite a night owl. Had many a good time down Soi 8 and almost always stay in a hotel on this street when I'm in Pattaya. Always seem to end up in a bar on Soi 8 last thing at night so it's not such a long stagger back to my loom.

Hopefully again in a few weeks time.

The one you're thinking of-nearest Flipper Lodge-certainly wasn't built 3 years ago. It's been there a good while longer-Eastiny Place is newer. Bella Vista is newer about 4/5 years old and Easting on soi 7 newest of all, where work did start on it about 3 years ago.

However Eastiny Inn does have some sea views.
The room I'm thinking of exit out onto a corridor open to the air towards the sea and overlooking the pool. There is a balcony to the rear which overlooks soi 8-specifically it's directly over Sexy Bar and the bars on the left as you go back towards the toilets-pool tables. I had a good view of Shark Bar from there and could see which staff were standing outside the bar. Noi arranged it for me,in fact I was staying there when you got married,so got a top room at a farang discount. Bigger and better room than the Flipper.

The noise wasn't a problem, except for people in adjoining rooms,as I'd be the last in-except on your stag night, when they were finishing breakfast as I veered past!

Have to agree, the hotel was fine, and the breakfast ok. But forget going to bed before 3am the music from the bars opposite shakes you out of bed!!!!!!

I've employed a roving reporter to investigate the scale of the renovations to the Flipper on soi 8. His report will hopefully be with me in the next day or so, providing he does not get too ****ed.

No sign of any activity outside Flipper Lodge and the adjacent car park seems un touched too.

See PM for Flipper House-possible that they'll clear the concrete rubble of the stumps of the bars next and then being the pile-driving but no signs of anything progressing apace, bearing in mind it was end of March they could have started.

Work ongoing on the Eastiny in construction (where Shark Bar was),but no machinery, just an occasional bloke with a hammer.
