All,

Now the hard part (which actually was dead easy) of getting a visa is out the way, I'm asking for suggestions of places to visit that your girlfriends have enjoyed in UK. I'm in Kent but have a car - I'm thinking of going to the west country but any days out or recommendations would be welcome - she loves to keep active and on the move in Thailand (Chiang Mai) so i think I have my work cut out....

Thx in advance

Its that sense of humour again, innit? Dungeness is the bleakest most god forsaken place on earth. But there are good fish and chips there!

How about a zoo. Thais love animals, I think, or maybe we all do. Kent has both Port Lympne and Howletts - two of the best.

Then, for a qick flavour of England: a castle (Leeds? Dover?), a cathedral (Rochester? Cantebury?), and the shops (Blue Water!). Throw in a decent country pub and a visit to London and she'll be happy.

Oh, and this is really useful: I think she will just enjoy long drives to take in amazing countryside with no rice fields and amazing roads with sane drivers.

Longleat in Wiltshire and Cricket St Thomas in Somerset if heading down to the West Country.

Yeovilton Air Museum, if want to go on Concorde (if it's still there).

When ever we had farangs come here(uk) to visit we have taken on awhistle stop tour of the UK. london/ snowdon/ lochness monster/ edinbrugh/ skipped newcastle / lincoln back home all in a week or so.

Everyone has loved it so far.....

then you covered all the bases. Alternative last year we went to Longleat centre parc for 4days midweek (cheaper) with family/ friends then worked out pretty cheap and great location outside school hols a must though.

Based on our recent experience of the long promised and much deferred sight seeing trip to London, my jaded advice would be to stay home, eat som tam and watch TV.

It was going to be all Buckingham Palace, Beefeaters and family photos by red phone boxes. We kicked off well with the London Eye. Followed by all you can eat noodles. But trucking round on the pricey open top tour bus produced glazed expressions all round and a refusal to even glance in the direction of a sight. So we abruptly aborted the mission, piled off the bus into a taxi and back to Waterloo and home. Forget the pre-paid boat trip on the river. Not even Harrods or Harvey Nics for Madame. "We go home now!" The last straw was the stupid videocam conked out so they can't even show off to the folks back home what it was they didn't enjoy. All crashed out big time on the train back. Nearly overshot and ended up at the seaside on the other side of the country, which I predict would have been a bigger debacle.

This disaster has not been mentioned since. Not a word. Good. So now I will never be persuaded to go to Animal World, Adventure World, Disney World or any other fiendish virtual World created to empty parental pockets and fill the gap in kids' heads left by school holidays. As for touring around the beautiful British countryside, forget it. After the first half hour I'm all on my own driving a gas guzzling mobile dormitory.

Personally I've been trying to get to Angkor Wat for 3 years and can't get anyone to go with me. What do you think my response is going to be when someone mentions the delights of Centre Parcs?

That's about right, I'm often the only one awake when we get back home from the weekly shop in Sheffield.

We like the seaside and the Peak District, there again, we live there Wink

Try taking her to Ashford & then getting on a eurostar to Paris for a few days. If you're careful enough you could get the visa work sorted out without her actually knowing where you was going. Wouldn't that be a good suprise!?

an important thing to do though is warn them that in england if somebody flashes their lights then that means you can go, NOT like in thailand where it means don't even think about going or i will drive into you at high speed.

I forgot to mention this and there were large intakes of breath for the first couple of days til we discussed it

.. Good choice, lots of nice things to see and do down in these parts Cool

Su likes me taking her to all the National Trust properties, to look at the gardens (she's obsessed with flowers) etc, nice to chill out and take a picnic along with you. You've also got Dartmoor / Exmoor to get away from it all.

.... Just depends really what your budget is and what sort of thing you like doing. Loads of nice hotels, country pubs, resteraunts. (Bit of night life if you want it Roll Eyes)

Mol loves animals (not just to eat) and flowers/gardens. So if you're going West, you must try and do Monkeyworld in Dorset and of course the Eden Project in Cornwall.

Took my wife to watch Leyton Orient, she seemed excited when she was there but will not go anymore.

Have taken her Horse Racing and she loves that.

The zoo she loves to visit.

We went on the Severn Valley Railway, she was not as impressed as me.

She loves visiting the Sea ...

She loves to visit any kind of Market ...

She loves visiting the countryside ...

And of course shopping she adores ...
