Thinking of booking this hotel for my stay in a few weeks. Just how long is the walk from this hotel to Sukhumvit road ?

Keith, yes, I saw that review says "Nice location 400 mts inside Sukhumvit Soi 5" but just wanted confirmation of that from someone who has stayed there. I've stayed in hotels before that say close to the beach and it's been 15 mins away. Eeker

Maybe the question I should have asked is how long does the walk take ?

I would guess 5 minutes plus the road crossing time going and anything up to 3 hours going back depending on how much Singha and whether you can still walk Big Grin

Mark,

I always stay here for a couple of days before I fly North.
Great location, excellent breakfast buffet, that will set you up for the day. Big rooms and big step in shower. Gullivers bar, and Foodland in the same Soi, and a new place above Foodland. Avoid the taxi touts outside they have all got "broken" meters. Book with Asiarooms.com for the cheapest rates. Don't book direct with the hotel, the rackrate is $85 a night.
The walk to Sukhumvit Road will be about 5 to 10 minutes. Depending on beer intake.

Is that at a fast pace, average speed, a dawdle or a drunken stagger ?

I've visited people there before and, given its location, I don't remember anything more than the dropping off bit at the front. I suppose it may have underground parking but I doubt it. Why would you want some?

For the girlfriends car when she stays with me. Her office is moving to Asoke in the next week so I suppose she could leave her car at work and catch the skytrain if there isn't any.

Have you booked the room as a double? Apart from the extra breakfast voucher, I am fairly certain that the Benja used to operate a 'joiner's fee' system for overnight guests, can lead to awkward situations if she isn't registered.

Yep, booked a double, she should pick me up from the airport aswell so we will check in together which hopefully will stop any confusion.

I / we have stayed at the Promenade on visits to Bangkok since 1993 and the reality has never come close to what the website promises LOL

Still, it's relatively quiet, relatively clean and relatively cheap and its in a convenient location.

No sign of any security / encryption on the website either.
I've always turned up on-spec or booked over the phone.

Oh dear I've just applied for a booking at the Royal Benja for the 29th Nov to 4th of Dec before going to Buriram to get hitched.
Wonder if I will have to go back to the drawing board as well

They have always got rooms if you pay the rack rate of $85 US.

Mark,
Try the Ambassador Hotel not as nice as the Benja IMO or the Woraburi on Soi Nana (4)

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I've got a provisional booking at the Zenith on Soi 3 but I might try the Promenade. If I don't, i've certainly got a few more choices for when I come back to Bangkok after my trips to Pattaya, Roi Et and Vietnam.

Thanks again
