Pretty sure I went to a wedding reception at Chaophya Park Hotel, but didn't stay there. By definition,my recollection is somewhat hazy Wink
You might try sending Mark W a PM,as I believe he has stayed there.

I have stayed at the Chaophya Park many times.

Overall it's a good hotel, rooms are clean and tidy and service is very good. The cocktails are excellent and the food is good too. Not sure of the rates now but last time I stayed it was still good value as it is a little bit out of the centre of town but the underground station is just around the corner.

Some rooms are better than others but I can not remember which. But all have been ok from run of the house to the executive floor.

The only time I got annoyed was when coming back from "up-country" I got my wife to book over the phone. They quoted us a good rate but as soon as she tried to book it with the name Jarvis they tried to up the rate by 500 baht (Farlang). So we stayed at a cheaper hotel for one night then I booked it over the internet the next day at a lower rate than they originally quoted. Never did get around to complaining though.

The only downside there is nothing around the area to do including eating, so a taxi if not the underground will be required. There is a small shop in the hotel car park which sells 7-11 type goods but has a limited range but is handy.

There is a night club next door and a big restaurant which is part of the hotel, the restaurant is always busy but I think the night club may be closed now. As with most big hotels that I have stayed at in Bangkok the hotel main restaurants are usually empty. But the food was always good.

Also ask for a room away from the lifts as sometimes they have big events there and the lifts will wake you up if you are next door to them when every one is going back to their rooms.

The Cheese Burger at 2 am in the morning by room service is a god send after a late night out.

If you do stay, say hello to the big fish in the tank in the main lobby from me, if it's still there.

If you don't like heights it may be a problem if you get a room on the 14th Floor !

I plan to stay there again next time we are in Bangkok.

Hi,

We've stayed in the Emerald several times, if you book on the internet the rate was (last December) about 2500 baht per room, including a good buffet breakfast. Rooms are fine, if a little small. The underground is only a few hundred metres away, as is Robinsons and (I think) Carrefour. They've got reasonable car parking space as well, which helps.

Regards

You certainly did, nice hotel. I would recommend it but as Ivan says above, not a great deal to do in the area unless you like "massage places"

Hey Mark W

I must of missed the "massage places" I only saw what could be described as builder row with tile shops, bath room fitters and an up market furniture shop.

Missed the "massage places" not that the wife would let me go LOL

Ivan, you are joking, right? It is impossible to miss all of those huge neon-lit 'entertainment complexes'. I reckon you could pick out that section of Ratchada from the moon.
