Stayed at these places in August.

Ibis Siam in Bangkok is a really good basic hotel. The staff, in particular, are friendly and very helpful. It is quiet and clean. Food not bad. The location, Rachaprarop by Soi 20, was a mystery to most taxi drivers but its actually a really good area - very Thai. Not far from BTS. 9 out of 10 from me. Plus we got the rooms at 860 Baht (excluding breakfast at 200 Baht per person).

Dolphin Bay Resort in Prachuab Khiri Khan is as good as it gets. Clean, cheap, quiet, friendly, beautiful. I don't think I will ever visit LOS without staying there for a few days.

Smiler Agree with you Ian about Dolphinbay although between huaHin Cha am you will find a few more similar places,
If you have not tried, the regent or beach garden hotels, then they are worth looking into.
The village of Bangkwai where these Hotels are located is a very nice area.

IanB,
Is there still an English chap called Graham acting as manager there? When we last stayed there the owners were a Thai lady and her English partner and the Thai/UK connection was coming to an end as they had sold up and were developing a place somewhere closer to Hua Hin. The reason for asking is that despite both my wife and I liking the place (we honeymooned there) she had a bit of an issue with one of the chaps that was renting out his Ford Pickup as a taxi service to Hua Hin. We had booked it to come back from Hua Hin and when they turned up to pick us up there was another chap already in the cab which meant my father in law had to sit outside in the back. My wife was ****ed as effectively the owner of the car was taking two fares for one trip and disrespecting us. Father in law didn't mind (in true Isan spirit) as we all know that riding in the back of a pickup is quite normal in Isan.

Not just Issan, the same applies in everywhere in LOS I have been.

Back on Topic the villa's at Regent are very good and on our second visit they had shut the horrible French Restaurant (La Velodrome or something like that)

No, Graham and Garry are no longer involved. I would be interested to know "where are they now" as I got on well with them. also, the resort is ont exactly the same one as I stayed in 7 years ago. That one is now called Lelawandee or something, the "new" Dolphin Bay Resort is a few yards further along the bech. Not sure who the owner is now, but a lady called Kirsten seems to be managing the place.
