Skips,

do you really want to stay in silom?

I always use the president park suites in din daeng.

Not too far from the airport but close enough to sukhumvit in a taxi as well (about 100bt).

If your wife books it over the phone she will get the 'thai' price which is about 300bt cheaper!

I stayed there some years ago when they ran a promotion B1900/night. But it is usually too expensive for me.
They do have a nice lounge with Philippino-style cover band, and a nice pool. It is also quite a long way from most places and a fair walk from the Skytrain.
If you really want Silom the Narai is OK. Opposite is Tower Inn with walk-in rates B1250. Apart from a super pool on the roof (19th floor) it is let us say a little tired, but rooms are huge and I like it. Short walk to Skytrain, Airport Bus stops at the door and Patpong (for shopping) is a comfortable walk.

We have to go to the Police headquarters

and wanted to be close to some shopping - generally get out of Bangkok ASAP - but I suppose we should give it a go as we will have to wait for the records check anyway and should try some shopping and possibly Lumpini Stadium, the old tourists trail of the Rice barge tour, palace reclining budda etc etc.

As always any sugestions greatly appreciated
