Hello to you all,

We're taking my wife's 9 and 11 year old to Dream World next month.

Have any members any views on this park? Is it best to buy the ticket from the hotel or at the park entrance?

Having not spend much time in Bangkok except for visa visits can anyone recommend a hotel for a family within striking distance of Dream World?

Thank you in anticipation.

Adam and Noi.

we took the kids to dreeamland and had a good day, the snow was great fun especially when it was over 100f outside.
another palce worth considering is siam park city, it is a big water park with a fantastic outside heated wave pool. it is very child friendly, it has slides and spas, and refreshments. about an hours drive in the traffic by taxi, make sure you get the driver to stay for the day as you will have trouble finding a taxi when you leave. About 200bt each kids go for 100bt or free if under a metre in height.

Visited this park in May. Honest opinion not Thorpe/alton or even paulton park!!

And it is a little tired and very Cheesy but my 2/4 year loved the aspects they could go on and during the week it is empty.....

If i remember rightly we paid for a all inclusive ticket for me and 1 kid half price due to age (800bht) and the thai national who also hate rides (aka: the wife Argue) paid for an entry only ticket and then could buy tickets for her rides inside(added up to the cable car) Roll Eyes.

For my family it was a good half day fun for your two you will easily spend all day there. and pretty cheap inside no £6 shite burgers here....

So hope you don't get motion sickness

don't go on super splash till the very end (and not at all if it looks like raining), otherwise u'll be wet and miserable for the rest of the day till u reach ur hotel.

accommodation-wise, something north of don muang airport and close to future park rangsit shopping mall will be within easy driving distance of dream world.

As already said, the rides aren't as impressive/scary as Thorpe Park et al; but when we went a couple of years ago a fun time was had by all, although Pick's girlfriend threw up immediately she got off one of the rides!

I paid the tourist price, everyone else paid the Thai price. However, my ticket was all inclusive whereas the Thai ticket didn't include the karts and some of the other attractions; including, IIRC, the snow house.

I would never go to one of these such parks unless I had a death wish, I would have to have a screw loose to let my kids (if I had any)go on anything here. From what I've seen in other places in Thailand the safety procedures are not up to the ones in England.

Have people been killed there or seriously injured?

Never AFAIK.

In Thailand you've got a better chance of doing harm to your kids putting them in a Tuk Tuk, a car, a motorbike, or even just crossing the road with them. Would Mark stop his kids doing all of those as well?

Crazy

I'd take my kids to Dream World, no problem.

Runaway Mine Train at Alton Towers
July 20, 2006
At Alton Towers today at about 11:00am the runaway mine train had an accident. As it was going around the track the end part of the train came off and rolled back crashing in to the front part. Two people were taken to hospital in an air ambulance and another was driven to the hospital.

Miniature train at Gulliver's Theme Park
May 11, 2006
A maintenance engineer was decapitated when a miniature train he was riding went into a tunnel at Gulliver's Theme Park in Milton Keynes, Bucks, United Kingdom. Hugh Dow, 56, was killed instantly. The train should have had sufficient clearance to allow the engineer to proceed through the tunnel, so an investigation is being carried out by the Health and Safety Executive to determine what caused the accident.

Rita: Queen Of Speed at Alton Towers
June 13, 2005
Amelia Seiga, 12, suffered the double fractures after riding on the new Rita, Queen of Speed ride at Alton Towers theme park, in Staffordshire, her mother said. She said: "The force of the ride was so strong that it peeled her hands off the guard rail and bent her wrists back."

I stand corrected. Just discovered this "accident" at Dream World, Bangkok:

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/837239/video/

[Edit: Despite the comments accompanying the video about palm trees and the location of the ride, I don't think it is Dream World. In the Bangkok theme park there are a lot more trees either side and behind the ride. Otherwise it is identical, as is the location of the bridge. Still very funny though.]

As they say in Thailand " Up to you" but I certainly will not be going there.

Going in a car and crossing the road are necessities. Going to a theme park is not.

Well, based on that train of thought, going on holiday to Thailand isn't a necessity either. Why take the risk? Eeker LOL

Confused

Might be there before you Paul. My son and family are coming over in March and Dreamworld is on the list of places to go.

We've been there before and my girls loved it, especially Snow Town and having to wear a parka and wellies.

Guys, thanks for your replies.....

My adopted family have never been on a plane, to Bangkok or stayed in a hotel before so a trip to Dream World is truly going to be a dream realised for them.

It seems the safety procedures after the power failure were totally lacking. It's a shame it's taken a death to prove the point I was making above.

Mark, the article gives very little detail, certainly not enough to justify your claim.

Accidents happen in western theme parks too, more in fact. See the link in Paul's post of 15 October 2007 11:51 and Five Days, Five Deaths In The UK.

So I guess you'll never be going to any theme park anywhere Roll Eyes.
