This is a slightly contentious point. when I was due to go to LOS last May I realised a couple of weeks before the flight that there would not be six months left on my passport at the date of my planned return. So I went to the passport office and did an express application, new passport sent to me in five days. So I toddled off to the Thai Consulate in Cardiff, new passport in hand,to get my visa. Telling the lady receptionist, who by the way has been dealing with me for years, of my sudden panic, she stunned me by replying "Oh, the six months is only a guideline, there is no actual rule in Thailand that says that you must have six months remaining".
