Hi,
I am in Bangkok at the moment, and planning to take my wife, daughter and neice away for a few days. I think we have decided on Phuket, and have found some very reasonable flights with Air Asia.
But I would like advice on which bit of Phuket to stay in, and any good hotels. We are looking for a family-type hotel that isn't too expensive.
Also, any advice on fun activities with kids in Phuket would be most welcome. I last went over 10 years ago, and the only thing I remember doing was a boat ride to Phi Phi.

Hi,

In terms of an activity, I would recommend a visit to Phuket FantaSea, I took my family & we all thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

"Phuket Fantasea is culture night time entertainment theme park on the Kamala Beach. The park features numerous attractions and adventure into Thailand’s ancient culture and realm of myths. Charming and beautiful classical dances from Thailand’s various regions play a prominent part in the variety of shows presented. Phuket Fantasea is the award-winning, Las Vegas-style production spectacle colorfully blending the beauty of Thai culture with magical illusions, 4-D effects, aerial ballet, acrobatics, pyrotechnics, special effects, exciting stunts and elephant performances featuring over 30 elephants, all into one unforgettably unique theatrical experience guaranteed to delight visitors of all ages."

We were there in January and stayed here

http://www.tropicalphuketresort.com/

It was reasonable (well in fact a bit to much but for that time of year you have to pay a premium). So now it may well be cheaper.

We had a sea view room which was lovely.

This was on Kata beach which out of the 3 beaches is the quieter and very nice too. Of course Karon and Patong are only 15 and 25 mins away.

A visit to the similan islands is a must.

This is an image I stiched together in photoshop.
