Has anyone tried the Ibis Siam? As has been mentioned before,it offers very cheap rates - currently 825 Baht excluding breakfast (at 150 Baht per person). It has been described as a "rather unpleasant" five minute walk from Victory Monument. But for the sake of potentially saving 2,000 Baht per night for two rooms for nine days, it sounds to me like a good deal. As one of the rooms would only be occupied by my son, there are actually benefits in having to pay for the breakfast.

My alternative choices now seem to be the Citi Chic hotel or the Royal Banja. I presume that for the extra 1,200 or so per night these would provide a more pleasant experience?

Cheers

Ian

Ian, the reviews on Tripadvisor are quite good. "Rather unpleasant" could mean all kinds of things - like too warm, too smelly, uninteresting views etc.

Thanks. Yes, the reviews do look good. I'm sure the walk to victory Monument can't be any worse than a trek down a Soi on Sukhumvit. I think we may well go for the Ibis.

Lucky,I'm pretty sure it was the Mandarin that had a big fire within the last 8 months or so. That said,it seemed OK on the one night I stayed there pre-fire.

I'm going for the Ibis BUT it now look as cheap to book via r24, and I would like to do this to support this wonderful forum. How come if I search for Ibis on r24 its not there, but back in September Paul provided a direct link to it. Are there more hotels on r24 than first meets the eye?

i think i recall writing that, referring to the heat and traffic noise and fumes in the area rather than to the hotel itself.
