My Thai wife's letter from the council....inviting her to vote!!

Yesterday my wife called me at work to tell me she had a letter from the council, something about voting. I thought no, that can't be right, she must be reading it wrong.

Anyway when I got home and read through the letter. Sure enough, they had sent her a letter stating that they are introducing a new pilot scheme which is aimed at locating people that are eligable to vote, but are not on the electoral register. How do they think a Thai national, currently living here on a 27 month spouse visa is entitled to vote?

Another funny thing was, the letter was addressed to her maiden name, which she has never used in the UK. The only time I can think that she has ever needed to give her maiden name was on the application form to open her bank account. Other than that it's never been used.

My wife is named on the council tax, but in my married name. How could they think she is eligible to vote, or do you think they're just plucking random names & address from some obscure database somewhere and hoping for the best?

Anyone else had a similar letter from their local council?

I'm trying to locate a good route from Sri Racha to Regents school but there are no decent maps with road directions on the web. Anyone have any advise please.

I have to be there for school opening so it will be a rush hour traffic job also.

Hi all, I'm here looking for some advice, hope that's ok..?

My Thai aunt has come over for a visit and doesn't know anyone in the UK. I'd like to help her make friends, but I don't actually know any Thais as I was brought up in the UK by my father. I don't even speak Thai, and she speaks patchy English.

I live in Bournemouth and know there's a sizable Thai community here but don't really know how to reach out and make contact. Does anyone here know anyone or have any ideas?

I am thinking of getting another dslr camera and long lens to start my bird photography again.

I have been looking around and it looks as if it would be cheaper and more choice if I bought from e bay uk and sent it to myself here.

Does anyone know if there would be duty to pay or any other pitfalls please?
Also any good safe way of shipping?

I don't know about others but the temperatures shown on here look high and on speaking to wifey today (PHS) she said "Thai not go out but stupid farang do and we not have beach so why they go" ?)

I had no answer than maybe mao and she agreed ;) lets hope it cools down by July and I don't mind the rain. :)

Well here I am chilling out with a Singha beer on my hotel balcony in Patong Beach. It's 11.30pm my little daughter is asleep. Heard a commotion below me in reception next thing the two girls who work night security spill out of reception battering the life out of a snake. The girls won. Probably harmless but maybe they know different. Anyway another Singha from the fridge.

Has anybody done this?
Nat has bought products at John Lewis, who say that can arrange the VAT refund, but for a fee. It looks like you receive around a 12% refund rather than the 20% you have paid.

Can you claim at customs yourself without paying a fee?
