Agree Mike as these employers probably think "it's not a farang so it doesn't matter"

I must admit that I derive an irony from "Waltonboy"'s "dislike" of my previous post.
The "dislike" per se is of no consequence, but Robert Tressell, whom I quoted, is buried in Walton!

Cash-in-hand isn't illegal, but the employer should ensure that they live up to their legal responsibilities. The inference from your post is that the arrangement is underhand.
In my experience, those who exploit the migrant population the worst tend to be of the same community.

I agree, but I think to get the ball rolling it may be necessary to work this way for a short amount of time. I think her CV will look better with a present job in the UK, rather than past experience in Thailand. 2 or 3 days per week, I've told her to tell the boss that she has another job cleaning part time, so needs another part time job cooking. The boss probably thinks she is smart and that we are stupid, wrong, we are smart, because we are going to use her!
Another very important issue here is the new financial requirement for settlement. Only income that has been 'legally' earned may be counted to satisfy the minimum financial requirements. Cash-in-hand off-the-books payments are not considered 'legally earned' income.

If you want to know where I am, follow me on my Thailand-UK Blog.
I think my missus would definitely agree with that. It seems like everything she has done involving Thais has resulted in her being ripped off or taken advantage of in some way. Having said that, the worst of the lot may have been the moron with the recently imported Thai trophy wife who swore and shouted at his wife in public and clearly thought he could do this with his chef too. Not for long though.
She finally seems to have hit lucky and got a 'proper' job with real potential and still seems shocked at how courteous and respectful the big boss is, and he's a real businessman with a long and successful track record.

Had some good news this morning, the owner of the bakery has offered my wife some work on Thursday and Sundays making sandwiches, 5 hours per day and the possibility of further hours. She is working in the Thai restaurant today.
I still reckon there's potential for a little co-operative business there, groups of Thais getting together to make reasonably cheap lunch food, especially if they're getting exploited elsewhere.
Cheeky Thai restaurant owner is going to pay her £100 for 3 days work, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, plus about £33 for today, that's about £3.60 per hour. There is caveat to this, she will getting a lift back home from the boss when the restaurant closes, that will save £20 for the taxi back home and my dad will take her to work in morning. So that is now working on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and a day off on Tuesday, 2 part time jobs and £193 per week!
Sounds like "sorted" for the time being tribalthen the knackered bit may appear.

Knackered, no, I feel fine, then again I've done nothing all day long!
She is sorted for the time being, so that's 2 jobs that I've found for her now, but I'm quite lazy in finding anything for myself, ooops!
Note to myself, must find a job...![]()
I was thinking nocturnal activities mate but yes sort your job out too or you will get the "how did this happen now I pay for you" which is not so bad thinking about it
colin 244
There is not a problem with the night time activities, sometimes too much, I have ignore it sometimes, too much of a good thing and all that!
Part of the masterplan is her giving something back to me, after the visa process finishing, flight back to the UK for her and everything else, I'm now skint, payback time and she know's it payback time too!
Been taking it easy today and watching England win!
