"one thai lady decided i was he boyfriend/husband"
Spend any longer than 24hrs with a female friend in Thailand and you may find you have the same problem. If you're not interested make sure they know it

Yes, a farang in a cab going from Bangkok all the way to Hua Hin could get fleeced (my wife comes from Hua Hin). Get your cab to Bangkok's south bus station, then a bus from there - it's cheap, and the buses are immaculate!
Shrek - lucky for you I will also be in Bkk the week of 7-12th Nov.
If you want someone to "show you the ropes" on your first night out...PM me.

Well we will await the report on his return and Biff if you need Thai fruit in large quantities get yourself up to Phitsanulok to deal with the other half as I will stay well clear when she goes into harvest and selling mode

Ash, after reading the above, any questions? Just mentioned as had another couple of thoughts from my early days in Thailand. Mosquitos, there is a lotion that is stocked in 7-Elevens etc Soffel that is superb at detering the mossies (you will get bit, depends on how badly your body reacts though) and that lotion is nice smelling too. Tipping, I started giving large tips, but was then informed 20baht was sufficient as a tip.
Oh and don't forget about good holiday insurance :-)

With regards to "tipping".
If you leave it with the bill or "check bin" it will go in the collective "pot" which may or may not get divided up by the staff. I usually give 10%. Taxis i round it up to the note as I can't be bothered carrying coins.
If you give it to the waiter/ress in "her hand" they will then trouser it as it is directly for them![]()
Second the thoughts on holiday insurance.

Shrek second the thoughts on soffel, late afternoon and evening, just when you arrive. Do not underestimate the problem. Jet lag and mossies equals unhappy farang..............there is a 7/11 at the airport. re: language .....Best of luck with the tones

Shrek A major tip if you are walking around town Look UP & DOWN and Side to Side At the same time It may prevent A accident You can get your neck wraped around A electical wire and put your foot into a hole at the same time in Bangkok. And one more thing Do not think the Zebra crossing is in any way safe. The drivers pay Zero attention to the. Even A red light means GO.
If you are out with A lady she will take care of you she wont want anything to happen to her Handsome Farang.
Another thing. Not so much in central Bangkok, but when you cross the road look both ways, as Thais do not always drive on the correct side of the road. This is commonplace,, particularly with motorbikes, and on dual carriageways. If a car flashes his lights it means he is coming through. It does not mean "After you sir".
Shrek take his generous offer or you are gonna get fleeced.Shrek - lucky for you I will also be in Bkk the week of 7-12th Nov.

You need street smarts here, and so far you aren't showing any signs of it.
The establishments you wanna frequent' as well as the ladies, will have a field day with you.
I'm there

I think that's an excellent idea! It's always nice to have someone to hang out with. Even better if that person 'knows the manor' as it were
Me and my mate landed on our feet the first time we hit Bangkok, met these two guys in the hotel bar who 'showed us around' lower suk. Very nice guys and saved us a lot of hassle as they were well known in various 'haunts'![]()

Yes, indeed. Learned this one to my expense some 10+ years ago.If a car flashes his lights it means he is coming through. It does not mean "After you sir".![]()
Judging others before you have met isn't a wise option.
