keep it simple...............if the ladies are keen a visit to Isaan might be nice or even a meet up in patters.
Ash I,m likely to be in BKK around the 12/13th. I contact you when i have definite flight plans. Thai are doing some very cheap prices at the moment 565 on some days.

Correct Linnie "a special sale" and on comparison sites TG for circa £567.00 direct compared to the cheapest on Tripadvisor Sri Lankan £500.00 (31 hour return trip)

A no brainer if you have holiday allocation at work left and the dosh for a LOS trip

My advice get in there

yeh yeh yeh 455 with a stop over in BOM got any ideas for a new annual 2 pre existing (high bp and a bad back ) I,m so happy

4 weeks before i leave and no definate plans. still looking at Hua hin for a week then maybe Chiang mai but not definate and will just go with the flow :-) got insurance passport and money dont care about anything else :-)
just need god exchange rate when i get there and all will be well. will get a phone here and a sim card there? do i need anything else????

Travel light..........there is not much that cannot be bought there...........watch the mossies in the evening etc drink plenty of water. Huan Hin and CM sounds civilised. Re:the sim card etc thai phone chargers for most phones are easy to buy and cheapish. The sim card is available from 7/11 etc around 49b. There is a 7/11 on the middle at the airport and everywhere else. Wait a while for the sim card to activate before you do the top up. Avoid the AIS desk at the airport.

the rain easing and the river in khon Kaen has dropped a bit but it has been a bit rough out there :-( but i have booked sunshine for my trip so will have no need of a canoe thanks

Hope you have a good trip Shrek. First time on your own will be a bit daunting but a good experience. My first visit was with friends and we also met friends out there who showed us the ropes.

Having no fixed itinerary except for getting there is a good thing i think. There is so much to do. Just make a lots of notes of what to do if you do visit Chang Mai, if you do visit Phuket, if you do visit Hui Hin etc. If you don't you will miss the best thing in those places

Like I said so much to do and everything changes all the time. My friends visited this year and I gave them loads of tips/things to do etc being a seasoned traveller there. They came back and gave me a 100 things to do.

Bkk is best to stay by skytrain. The skytrain is fab - I love it as its so cool and gets you most places. Don't be afraid to carry on past the usual stops such as nana, MBK etc and go to some of the further stops and just get off and explore.

I read with interest and look forward to reading a trip report while your there own when back.

krabi or hua hin ? i have been told krabi nicer than hua hin? is it better for a vist is it more expensive ?? not sure where to go??

and only 2 weeks b 4 i go :-)

krabi indeed although a tad expensive but nice and good for some local trips............a day or two on the islands

shrek............krabi is in 2 bits really you will probably want to stay in Aonang although all bits can be reached by bus from the airport ...........air asia

bus or better Air Asia..................train possible but a 2 hour van ride afterwards

from BKK is fly air asia , from phuket if your going there by bus (phuket town bus terminal)

fly! I did the bus ride from Bangkok to Krabi in May this year. 12 hours of my life that I will never get back. The 'food' at the halfway stop still haunts my dreams! Even the kids wouldn't eat it.

Do take a trip to Lanta or the other islands while you're there, beautiful part of the world. In Klong Nin (Koh Lanta), go to Otto's bar/resort, tell them Biff sent you and they'll put the prices up for you

I did it in the opposite direction. It left around 1830 and arrived at errrr 0320 @ the southern bus station, even the THE taxi driver(1) was fast asleep.
