Thai Beer Preferences

Phetchy's post trying to convince Mrs Phetchy he should put more Archa into stock due to the water shortage got me thinking it's only 6.5 weeks till my next Ice Cold Archa !!

In order of Preference my Thai Bottled Beer League Table is...

1...Archa (why is this one so much cheaper than the others when it is actually strounger than some of the them ??)
2...Chang
3...Leo (all the locals in Mai's Dark Side Soi in Pattaya and all the locals in her North West Village prefer this one)
4...Cheers
5...Singha
6...Heineken
7...Tiger

And here's a question, what's the beer in this picture, far right ?

When i created this attachment the picture i copied was much smaller and "unreadable". I can now see what the beer is. Sorry.

OK then, anyone know or recommend any more regional beers ?

Nothing to do with beer but the c-sip drinkers up in Mai's Village all swear that the Utteradit brew is much better than the Nakhon Sawan version.

Last night I was offered a Chang Export. New they said in the restaurant and the nice Chang girl that offered it would have been offended if I had refused.

Should also mention it worth trying to find them on draft although so far, locally, only have beer Leo sot.

Difficult to find but my favourite is Lao Dark.

Your taste buds change as you get older Dan. Most elderly gentlemen prefer dark beers.

They used to stock Phuket Beer at my local Thai restaurant, in my opinion it was a very nice beer much better than the other Thai brands.

My fav is Mandalay Beer, very refreshing but i think only available inside Burma for now.

IMHO this stuff resembles the famous brown stuff from Newcastle. (In my youth this was the fashionable drink amongst those of us in the Uni bar).

Its nice to find something that does not resemble liquid waste product.

Favourite beer -Chang Chang Chang - did I mention Chang? But if they haven't got any Chang, Leo or Tiger - at a push Singha. So when are you going to be in Pattaya Wolfy? I'm hoping to meet Phetchy for a few beers sometime in December - if you're about we could have a beer fest somewhere. Will have to be near a market so the other halves can go shopping though!

This is the gear to try - 6.9% but tastes smooth and goes down really easily. A few supermarkets sell it here in pattaya but I'm yet to see it for sale in a bar. Presumably due to the fact that there are enough idiot falang holiday makers who can't handle the usual stuff.

Cider is available everywhere I go in Bang Saray or Ban Chang, and presumably in Pattaya and surrounding areas. Why are you asking Colin? Can't you find any?

Well i'll be there sometime in December but not sure of dates yet. Arrive in BKK 7th.

Agree with colin, can't go wrong with a Singha.

The lower end of the scale was in Laos and about the only beer that seemed available, Beer Lao.

What ever you do don't ask for cider. I took my mate out there a few years ago and he only drinks cider. We kept going to my local bar (Best Friend) and asked for cider in there and also every other bar we went in always to be told no have.

On the last day one of the girls in Best Friend asked him if he wanted to try a new beer they had.... Strongbow

I chanced upon Stowford Press cider on draught at a bar in Patong Beach a few years ago and very disappointed as it was completely flat and drank about a third of it before giving up.

Hi Dave , I never go out to bars , unless I go meet up with other expats , so far once in the 3 months that I have lived here

. When I do go out it would be to a restaurant for supper. When I do drink it is normally at home or at a friends , so whatever I'm going to drink will be bought at tesco's. I have'nt seen any ciders there yet , but then again I cant say that I have looked very hard.
I'll have a harder look next time I do my shopping or on the 29th if that meet up still goes ahead.
