Travel Insurance for Wife

Hi All,

My Wife is with me in the UK on a settlement visa and we travel back to Thailand together next week for a couple of weeks, my question is should i be getting the wife travel insurance as i would myself.

Can anyone say one way or another as its not somthing i've had to think about before, we are also traveling to Laos for a week so maybe that part of our trip we can get somthing in Thailand to give cover?

Hi I would have said definately have a joint insurance. You wife has her own luggage , could be delayed and Gd forbid she is ill while away, who will pay. Personally Jan and I insured on an annual joint policy with insureandgo.com.

Spider, for me there is only one short answer, Yes.

Yep buy a travel policy for both of you but if intending more than one foreign trips each year an annual policy will be cheaper however as your wife is a Thai national (assume not British passport yet) you should declare this to the insurer as it is what they call a "material fact"

Careful, spider. How long has your wife been resident in the UK? Less than six-months or longer?

Looking at getting a joint policy but not sure if i can do this as mentioned above yes she is a Thai National(no British passport) and has only been resident in the UK since last september so just over six months.

You can get a joint policy, spider, and generally your wife should be resident in the UK and resided here for at least the last six-months. You should be fine.

Though, as always, go over the small print with a fine tooth comb.

Link , does it matter how long his wife has been here. I dont remember insureand go asking that last year when we went home for a holiday

It would be quite easy to gain travel insurance for anyone, but when you come to claim you could find yourself with no cover.

Definitely read the whole policy, it's essential.

Hi Again,

Just been looking around the T's & C's of various insurers and most (all) say you must have been a resident in the UK for 3 Months Single trip/6 Months multi, Travel starts and finishes in UK and some saying you must be registered with a GP so in our case we tick all these requirments.
