Default Tales of shrek48 - Life in Thailand

Appologies for the lack of posts or replies, no air card and then no net ;-)
Life is still great, had teachers day last week and ||I rexcieved a mass of flowers after the official event. This is the time after the morning ceremony that the students give their flowers to the teacher they like, I am very proud to say I am well liked, to the ponit I struggled not to cry at the end of the day.
I have now moved to a friends house and rent a room there, I have been allowed to build 2 chicken houses and now own 75 chicks, 20 layers and 55 for eating.
Tuesday I buy 100 more, 50 chicks that grow to big ones for eating and fetch good money and 50 more eaters as I want to have eaters ready every week, so this will e an ongoing project. I will breed the layers as they are expensive to buy. Yes I know how sad I sound and I don't care, I am really happy when I am looking after my chickens with my hosts families grandfather.
He has offerd me land for free(no rent) to put a thai style house on which I can move with me if i ever move, how generous is that!!
I have had confirmation that I have now passed my degree so I am just waiting for the certificate to come and I can go get my teachers license and work permit.
I have bought a new spacey honda scooter and a 2 stroke old bone shaker for fun, which I immediately blew up :-) it's so cheap to have done in the shop I am not bothering to get my hands dirty, anyway this weekend I am completing chicken house number 3 :-) baa I here you say, yep your probably right but I am distinctly happy.
I appologise now for any grammatical errors or any other mistakes, but again fast; fat fingers slow brain and also I don't really care ;-).
Big thanks to all the great people on here who support me and offer some great advice some i want to hear some i don't, please keep it comming.
PS I think maybe moo (pork, pigs) next as grandad says he may not replant all his land and wants me to have some.

Ash, I for one don't find this sad, but very interesting and look forward to reading about how the project goes. This is something I would be interested in doing myself should my wife and I ever make it over there when I'm old and grey. The wife thinks I'm mental but I think it would be a good project. Anyway keep the updates coming

Farmer Bryn seems to be making a decent living out of chickens so well worth a try(as an alternative/additional income stream)

Sounds like a lot of work Shrek, I've only got one bird to feed and look after - and she consumes most of my time (not sure if she's a layer or for eating yet) !

    Thanks all,

If you look on fb you will see chicken house number 3. I am having a ball here and am only really setting the chickens up for a friend, I will share the profits such as they might be, but right now its all outlay, minor costs really.
I will keep buying eaters and breeding layers and the ones that grow to 6/7kg as they are expensive to buy, but fetch good money when fully grown.
I think with the eggs and chickens to eat as a side line it will certainly make life more comfortable baht wise.
There maybe a chance of me starting my own English school, as I am being asked frequently to teach privately, but this can wait for a while.
I certainly will not be giving up my day job as I absolutely love teaching it is a god send to me.
Bought 10 more eaters today as they were cheap(no pun intended) and have 50 cicks that grow into the big ones and 50 more eaters arriving tomorrow.
    I am a happy chappie :-)
I bought a new motorcycle yesterday, only the Honda spacey as my friend liked it and she can drive it easily size wise, it was mainly purchased for her to sell the chikens from around the local villages.
I have had her old 2 stoker and put it straight in the shop to be done up as I have no tools or time to do it myself, and for what it is costing, 5000 baht its not worth me getting dirty for ;-), and yes again i know I am sad, I am having it bored out and played with and be really quick, the sad part !! I am having a shopping basket put oin it as I hate stuff hanging of my handle bars. No the basket is not pink !!!!!!!
Bye for now, hope your happy and well.

Ash, if you think you have a 7kg chicken, you can probably sue under the Sale of goods Act. It is an ostrich.

You're not sad at all. Can't wait to get out of the rat race in a couple of years and will be doing similar ! Keep on enjoying it.

    Default chickens and love life

I am not sure that is even legal to say in the same sentence???
Anyway as requested, the chickens are doing really well and the first wave have grown rapidly, it shows when you see them against last weeks purchases.
The new chicks that grow to 6/7kg are great and growing at a fair pace too.
I have installed eletric lights into grandads house and i the 3 chicken houses
    a- to give light
b- to give warmth at night
Also grandad is 80 and never had a light!!!!!! to see him smile is worth anything.
I have just over 300 chicks now and have already started breeding a few layers from grandads stock first hatchlings should be out in a week or so, hens are brooding nicely.
I am selling eggs from grandads chickens (about 8/10 layers) and cannot keep up with demand, selling an average of 30 eggs a day which is all the hens are producing with requests for many more.
Love life!!!! well i have something on the fire so to speak but I cannot and will not discuss it on here as yet sorry. I will say she is very beautiful to me and we have been taking things slowly. She works hard and asked for nothing but gives 100%. so far so good. Thats all I will say for now folks.
If anyone has an egg incubator going cheap(sorry no pun intended) I would be interested.

Ash, you mentioned your chickens that grow to 6/7kgs before. The worlds largest ever chicken only weighed 10Kgs and I doubt if you have one of those. Post a photo of it - I've never seen a chicken in Thailand reach much more than a couple of pounds before it goes in the pot.

Certainly sounds like you're keeping yourself busy! Have you had some farming experience back in Wales, then, I really wouldn't know where to begin!

I don't know if he could help with an incubator but have you been in contact with Bryn as in Bryn&Mot? He is into chickens in a big way, totally different operation to yours, but I am sure he would be a handy source of advice and information.

In an earlier post you mentioned having put up photos of the chicken houses on Facebook but didn't tell us how to find your page. Could you post a link?
