Default The death of the Honourable member from Sattahip

It is with deep regret and sadness that I have to report the death of my friend & forum member David (ddwjg) after a long battle with oesophagal cancer.

David's wife Nee rang me this morning to tell me that David passed away at 1.0am

I am somewhat in shock because although I have been expecting this phone call from Nee for many weeks it still caught me unawares and has left me with a tear or two in my eye.

Dave and I have had an up and down relationship over the years (like good friends do) and I have had to remonstrate with him and him with me of course many times.

Having said that He had a heart of gold and would always be there if you needed anything either information or transport especially in our early days in Pattaya and now that his suffering is over I feel sadness and emptiness with his passing!

I send my thoughts and prayers to Dave's wife Nee and his family at this sad time but I am happy at the thought that Dave will suffer no more!

    Rest in peace owd pal

Having witnessed first hand the very painful suffering of a former moderator here, Steve (Rolyshark), with a very similar cancer, it seems only fair to Dave that he went before he had to endure any more and any worse.

Strangely, the very first time I met Dave was also the last time I saw Steve.

I can say with a sad smile, and I'm sure Dave would smile back:

Goodbye and farewell you grumpy old git.

Dave was the first forum member I met in the flesh so to speak, shortly after I joined the forum. He was always up for a cup of coffee and a chat on the regular visits he made to Pattaya for his immigration requirements. He had a wealth of advice and experience to contribute having lived with his wife for a long time in both the UK and later in LoS. He did have a certain 'abrupt' way of putting things at times, but when you got to know him, you knew it was just the way he was and not intended to offend. Being in a position to empathise with him as far as his illness goes, he bore his condition bravely and did not complain of the suffering he was enduring. I am sure he is now at peace.

    R.I.P. mate.

I met Dave twice. The first time was a group meeting and we didn't get much chance to chat.

The second time was on a short holiday we made to Bang Saray. In passing I had mentioned to Dave we would be visiting there and did he know a 'dog friendly' hotel we could stay at. Well, off went Dave, as those who know him will understand, I think personally visiting every hotel in the area for us. He did everything but tuck us in bed at night.

I knew little of Dave. He had spoken of his illness and seemed resigned at the time to the outcome but although I met his wife and dogs, I know nothing of any family he had in the UK. I am sure he was a good man.

I hope his passing was without pain and my sincere sympathies go out to his wife, Nee, as I know how much she must have suffered with him, and must still be suffering now. I hope she has some good friends to comfort her.

Only spoke to Dave on the phone last week. Unfortunately he rang me to say he wasn't well enough for me to come for a planned visit. Like Phil, Dave was my first real contact on the forum ... Had many a Skype chat. He was difficult sometimes ... But that was just his way. As mentioned, he'd go out of his way to help you. Knew it was coming, but still a shock and upsetting.

    RIP Dave.

I don't know what to say. Like everyone else i knew it was coming but even so this news still hurts.

Thanks to Phil i managed to see Dave only a few weeks ago which was very hard but i'm so glad i was able to go. Despite saying "i'll see you in December" i knew deep down that i wouldn't be seeing him again. I'm Very sad today.

    RIP, my mate Dave.

(Harvey, can you pass on my regards to Nee please mate)

I've also only met Dave a couple of times and we spoke on Skype now and then , and like others have posted , we knew it was coming , but it is still very sad news . Although those that have met Dave will all agree that he was a ''grumpy old git'' , but will also all agree that he had a heart of gold and was never short of information for anyone who needed it.

R I P Dave , it was a pleasure to have met you.

I'm sorry to say that I never had the pleasure if meeting Dave in person but I always found him to be a valuable member of the forum. Being a grumpy old git is something I aspire to.

    RIP Dave.

    RIP Dave.

Like many other I never met Dave although I felt as if I had. Reflecting what others have said, he would go out his way to 'sort' or investigate for you.
    My condolences to his family.

Judging others before you have met isn't a wise option.
