Default Change of surname on Thai passport and Id card

    Hi,
we have been trying to change the surname on my wife's passport and ID card, but it proving to be more difficult than we thought, This is because we have not changed her name on house registration in Bangkok.

My question is does it really matter if her Thai documents and Brp stay in her maiden name and will it cause problems when extend visa and then later apply for Uk passport?

    cheers. Richard and Nuch.

Thank you. My wife and I where married inThailand only. So will this make a difference?

At the moment it looks like we need to go back to Thailand and change name on house register. We can then change surname on ID card. Once this is done, we can change passport in London.

my wife has been told we have 3 months to change BRP surname or its £900 to change after that period!!!

    Cheers Richard

    http://www.thaiembassy.org/london/en...-ID-Card).html

it does not state you need the house book to change ame on ID or passport. etc on here, this also applies to changing the name on id card a search on the site will also tell you about Thai passports. you ca always rig them to confirm whats needed. Westy depending where you are i the UK the embassy consular team often visit Temples to do / advise on this sort of thing. dates and places are on the website or from temples.

    Hope this helps.

Never had a problem with changing names in Thailand. Its a simple visit to the Amphur - my Mrs did hers at the Amphur immediately after the registration.

She also changed it back again immediately after the divorce .
