    Default Thai airways Heathrow T2

Hi all, I'm flying to Thailand on Sunday from Heathrow T2, I was booked on the A380 but I have now discovered that Thai airways have changed the flight to the 777-300ER.
annoyingly I found this out because I wanted to check my seat details were what I had selected, no phone call email no nothing FromThai Airways themselves ! I enjoy flying with them and I have a lot of miles built up, but there customer service is abysmal.
anyway I know that the A380 normally boards at gate B44, but does anyone have experience of flying on the 777-300ER, that could tell me where that plane normally boards?
many thanks for all and any answers.

Am sure it wont be too far from normal....Always a bit of a hike T2 really dont like those self checks ins either. If I'm on Eva (or thai) i want to speak to airline staff on check in (or contracted crew) not some floor walker helping people with self check in terminals

Thanks wunderbar, I'm not sure where the 777-300er will gate from, usually it's an A380 and I know it's gate B44 I just didn't fancy a long walk to the other end of T2.....

They have travelator walkway. I like to exercise after sitting in the car for 2 hours getting to the airport.

You'd better get used to long walks to the gates - it ain't getting no better. Some of them are ridiculous now and looking at the building work going on a Abu Dhabi, that looks like its going to be bigger than Dubai where you take a train between terminals!! I use to love flying in to the old 'flying saucer' at Abu Dhabi - one simple round terminal where the furthest you were ever going to walk was half way around the circle. Now? Well, Etihad seem to be very good at landing at terminal 1 with the onward flight departing from terminal 3. Anyone who's used Abu Dhabi recently will know what a trek that is. Having said that, last week's flight and three weeks before that both landed and departed from terminal 3 - maybe they've got their act together now?

Hi gents, thank you all very much for your input and replys it's always helpful and entertaining....the 777-300ER flew from gate B44 so although it was a surprise it was a welcome one, I got a free upgrade from Thai to business class as I had a lot of miles and had reached their star alliance ' gold' membership. I went into the united airlines lounge ( that's why I was asking about the gates) it was great in there, good selection of food and drinks, so an English fry up and copious amounts of coffee before the flight. I thought the plane looked aged and a bit battered, I had a business class seat, fold down bed etc, but to be honest, if I had paid a full fare, I would not have been a happy bunny, my seat area had a threadbare carpet, totally worn through, and a huge coffee stain on the planes window, as though someone had thrown it there, this never got cleaned up from the previous flight, and looks like the plane cleaners missed it, food in business class was ok, better than economy but still not good, I had a beef and potato main, the beef was overcooked and luke warm, the potatoes were ok but the veg was mushy...so a full fare being about £2,000 I would look elsewhere, I was dissatisfied really and expected more. I think if I went business class and had to pay, I would be looking at other carriers.
but apart from that I'm now in sunny khonkaen and have had a good dinner and a beer, so now time for bed.
once again many thanks for your help

    Enjoy your holiday essex boys.
I have always wanted a upgrade to business class, But don't usually stick to one airline.
I just go for a good cheap flight. Ha Ha

Hi Holty, good to hear from you, I have stayed in the Kosa hotel before, but now the gf trusts me I stay in her house, saves loads of money on rooms etc, we do go out to restaurant some times but she enjoys cooking and has her family over, so we tend to have good nights anyway. I stuck with Thai airways as I knew the amount of visits I was making would eventually get me the upgrade because of the air miles. But they are not the cheapest to fly with. I have heard good things about EVA, so might give them a try. I really do fancy flying with emirates from stanstead and then to Dubai, stay there for a few days and then into Thailand.

Don't think that sticking to one airline will guarantee upgrades. I've been with Etihad for years and have probably flown with them over 70 times yet I've only ever had 2 upgrades. Gold members are supposed to get priority for upgrades but that doesn't always happen. On my last Abu Dhabi - Bangkok flight the girlfriend of the guy opposite me was given and upgrade - I think because of some seat screw up. Later in the flight he told me it was her first longhaul...............I wasn't miffed......honest :-)

Etihad's business class is wonderful but I wouldn't pay nearly 4 times the economy fare for it. I've had my share of problems with Etihad and would move if it wasn't for the lounge access. I travelled for years without lounge access but now, I wouldn't be without it. Moving to another airline would mean starting again and no lounge access for a while.

We have flown with Eva and Emirates, both very good.
If we ever both in Khoen kaen at the same time, we could meet up for a beer and a bite to eat.

We are going to Thailand in oct, But undecided what our plans are as yet.

Ok Holty sound like a good idea, I'm supposed to be in khon kaen in October also as it's my birthday then, but I haven't made any plans yet.
to update the flight saga, I just received an email from Thai airways today, informing me that they have pulled all their A380's in for maintenance, this will be from the 10th march untill the 19th April, just wondering how many people have booked for flights for songkran on the A380 as it has bigger seats and quieter, only to find out ( like I did) that they are on the older noisier and more cramped 777-300ER

Im reading that the A380 will operate on TG917/916 and the 777-300er will be the TG911/910.
Basically the first flights out in each direction will be the 777 and the late flight the A380

We fly out July on TG917 and back in August TG916, both are in 777-300 according to Thai Airways.

Just looked at seatguro and TG910 is airbus and TG911 is 777 ?

The late flight out from UK suits us as it gives plenty of time to get to the airport. Comimg back The midday flight is better as we don't have to be hanging around the airport past my bedtime.

I'd like to fly on the airbus next time though - do you get a better view from the top deck.

Does anyone know what is going on with Thai Airways at the minute?
There were quite a few cancelled flights on TG916 and TG917 in the middle of May and now there is another list of cancellations.
My date of 10th June isn't on there (yet).

I would imagine it's a simple case of supply and demand. It's the dead season in Thailand at the moment.
