Total confusion over Settlement Visa

I had mine stamped by the British Embassy (BKK) maybe that was a either / or method at that time, but it s a new one on me....

Aye, that’s what I thought as well. I’ve read a fair bit on it now and it’s the first I’ve heard of it.

Once again, that's brilliant mate! much appreciated. Everything makes more sense when you see the rest of the info.

Another question for anyone that might know? I've just realised my fiancee's passport expires December 2020, will she need to renew it now, or can she do that at a later date?

Renewing her passport can be done nearer the time. We've just renewed my wifes passport here at the Royal Thai Embassy. However, at present, it does mean a trip to the Embassy in London and details are on their website. New passport was returned yesterday, a 4 week turnaround. Settlement visas are now not put in the passport but are issued as a biometric residence permit card instead. Or she can just renew the passport if you return for a visit to Thailand before the expiry date.
