Cherry & I were married on 11th October. It was a lovely day and a great time was had by all (particularly with lots of food and beer available)! We are really happy to be married and applied for FLR on the Monday after our wedding (postal application).
We still have not heard anything apart from an initial letter saying that they had received our application and would let us know if they couldn't deal with it quickly. They havent contacted us yet and a month isn't exactly quickly (although we're not panicking yet). I guess it's just a poor system that's in place. Or could it be because they start issuing ID cards from 25th November. Do you think they're holding applications back until after then so that people have to have ID cards? The website says 70% of applications are dealt with within 20 days. We've easily passed that and I don't think there is anything remotely unusual with our application.
Anyone else had to wait this amount of time? Any problems?
Cherry's visa expires 11th Dec. Am I right in thinking that she is entitled to stay until a decision has been made? It would be impossible for her to leave without her passport anyway but I don't want to break any rules and mess anything up for the future.
Thanks for your help.
Firstly congratulations on your wedding! Very best wishes for every happiness. You do know your application for FLR has been received, so it’s in the works.
We put our application for ILR on 6th September and like some other members of this forum have not heard anything as yet, apart from that letter saying yes they have had the application and if there is a problem with the application they will let us know. It is now 49 days since our application was received by the BIA. We must be in the 30% of applications they could not get done within twenty working days. Remember it does say within 20 working days, that excludes weekends and bank holidays. In your case you posted off your application on 13th October. Let’s assume they got it on 14th October. That means your application has been with them for 22 working days so you have only just passed that deadline.
While your application is being considered you are okay to remain in the UK. As you say, how can you leave?
The waiting is a real pain, but probably no news is good news, just hang on in there. You are not the only ones wondering what is going on.
Thanks. It must be annoying for you having to wait that long but it's good to know that we're not alone and that it's quite common. At least you're at the stage of applying for ILR. We have a long road ahead before we get that far, what with the 2 year FLR, life in the uk tests, etc. Hope you get the visa soon!
