Anyone know of any free parking near Gatwick, I am flying out Monday morning for 3 weeks and would rather spend the money in LOS. Thanks

    upc,

No but when I went to Gambia from Gatwick a few years ago I had a night in the Hilton (in the Airport) and got 2 weeks parking thrown in free (all for £90.00) which I thought was a bargain for room and parking! I go from LHR to LOS on 24/03/07 and no such bargains on the parking

    Upcountry,

From memory no free parking around the direct Gatwick Airport area unless you are prepared to leave your car in the McDonalds Car Park (Think it would be towed or subject to a controlled explosion though if you did this).

However, there is a small village Charlwood (3 miles)nearby the airport where you could risk leaving the car "on street parking", or the same in Horley (2 miles) just a case of getting to the Airport. The other option is on street parking at Three Bridges in Crawley and getting the train to the Airport. I used to park along St Marys Drive/Park Way (Housing area), a couple of minutes walk to the station. Whichever way, as well as taking a risk, you will also have some form of cost getting into the airport (taxi/train/bus).

    Dear Upcountry
I assume you are in Kent but not sure where, however I hope this helps. Not sure on the cost of tickets?
Depending on time of day there is usually a direct train every hour from Gatwick to Tonbridge for most of the day. At Tonbridge change for Ashford but it is a walk up and over the footbridge across the tracks.
At certain times however you have no alternative than to change at Redhill also
On weekdays and Saturdays during the daytime you also have the option of a train Gatwick - Redhill; change there, down the subway and over to the other platform for the train to Tonbridge then as before.
Redhill - Tonbridge is every 30 minutes until around 7pm.
On Sundays all trains are direct Gatwick - Tonbridge every hour.
As for free parking, i cant help, however the hotel option is a good idea and I have done this many times. As for leaving a car in a local town!!! I'd expect the council are aware of this one, and you would probably have you car removed.
    regards
    Neil

Have you tried Purple Parking, Elephant Parking and the likes. Book far enough in advance and the price is surprisingly cheap.
I am booked in for 2 weeks March/June and am only paying £56 at Heathrow (booked at start of February).

Also booked in at Manchester already for 1 Month at Christmas and this is only £76.

Have tried coaches and trains but if plane is delayed coming back it's a major hassle trying to rebook so have found taking the car best option and as such I don't think the price is too bad!!!

Around 10 years ago my local taxi firm did Wolverhampton to Birmingham Airport (around 20 miles each way) for £30 return and guaranteed to be there waiting even if the flight was delayed. It was delayed by an hour and they were there, unfortunately it was the Saturday of Crufts at the NEC and we met the evening rush, took 3 hrs to get home.

colin why dont you park in hayes or harlington and catch a bus in, only a short ride away save yourself a packet, prehaps we should post places of where to park on here near airports, i know my missus rather spend the money in thailand then 50-100 quid on parkinf the car in the UK!!

    On the parking front

Pink Elephant forget as takes the michael
    Purple £79.95
    econ park £78.95

As its Dao's favourite colour and TG livery I think Purple is the one to go for and book as 10 mins to terminal and bus every 10 mins!

Cheers for the recc as it beats the taxi £80.00 each way

Anyway as posted before my mate Rob will cough up half and he's coming back a week before me & Dao and has to arrange a lift for the arrival of TG910 at 07.15am on a Thursday

That's actually not a bad price from where you live. My firm charge £51.00 e/w from Loughton.
