Hi any one tried air Asia, Fantastic prices to Malaysia. Just wondered if its worth traveling with them and getting a flight to Bangkok from Kuala Lumpa.
Or is it a case of its cheap so its crap any thoughts would be of great help...

First you need to actually get the headline price and then there is the issue of what time the flight arrives in KL ..............so in reality you will need an overnight hotel in KL and then there is the onward flight to bkk ..............Air Asia are becoming the spotting image of the Irish airline with every overpriced add on you can possibly imagine...plus there is the issue of actually getting to Stanstead and and ...... Suggestion, look harder at the competition.

Used them many times for domestic flights within Thailand but never used the longhaul from Stanstead to KL. As far as their domestic flights go never had any problems with delays or service. Very cheap prices but in my opinion that has never compromised their service levels. Just bear in mind that they are a point-to-point airline so there is no give or take if you're late for flights etc.

Travelled on the domestic and regional routes (Kuala Lumpur & Singapore) many times and for the price, you couldn't really grumble. They have been late a couple of times but not much. Ok so they started charging for food a couple of years ago but as most flights are either 1 or 2 hours that's not really a problem.

However, its been a while since I used them and I inderstand they've now started charging extra for baggage and other things. As The Gardener says, by the time you've added on the cost of getting to Stanstead and then from KL to BKK, the flight will almost certainly be more expensive then the usual routes.

Air Asia are primarily a Malaysian airline with Thai Air Asia serving Thai domestic flights. I think the Stanstead - KL route was set up to serve Malaysia - it just doesn't work for UK to Bangkok. The arrival of Air Asia a few years ago certainly set some of the Asian domestic and regional routes on fire and has resulted in much cheaper prices all round as other airlines set up low cost arms to compete.

I'd be interested to see how much legroom they have on the Stanstead KL flight as if its anything like their regional/domestic flights, anyone taller than a midget is going to be very uncomfortable.

I can't believe you've never kipped overnight in an airport Mr.G!? I admit its been a while since I have and the boot of a moronic aussie security guard woke me the last time, "you okay?". Dumb eh?

Well getting to Stanstead is no problem from where I live (30mins approx) but as far as the UK/KL flight price it has always been higher in total than I can get with other airlines out of LHR including TG/EVA direct and you then need to add KL/BKK so a no brainer for me

We have also used air asia a number of times when me and wifey flew to KL from bkk and a few internal flights. Would have refused to get on the one with the full man u livery as us Liverpool fans could not do that.

Only problem we had was in March this year flying back from Vietnam when my bags were 2kg over and the check in girl was in a strop due to a very difficult customer in front of us who were about 10 tons overweight. After she dealt with them she decided not to let our extra 2kg through as hold luggage, so I took the offending North Face jacket I had purchased in Vietnam which had put it over the weight and carried it on the plane as hand luggage - yes sure that useless exercise made the plane lighter:-)

Agreed the check in people actually do not operate in a logical way "the scales say" and "your baggage is over limit" despite what you actually have about your person

I have had this with many airlines over the years with the very odd exception being Monarch when flying to Gambia as I had goodies for the local children (recommended in the Gambia brochure) and at check in the bag was over but the lady on the desk said "have you pens for the schools?" yes I said "well in that case there will be no surcharge"

That is an understatement! Me and G/F were 1Kg over between us (and the scales read 0.4 before the cases were put on!!) I got lots of Brownie points for holding my temper on that one!

use air asia alot domestic and around asia.....never had problems......but not sure about longhaul on a non stop bumcrunching flt LON-KL
hand friends use them UK-KL they say never again....had to pay for everything and had to pay extra at check in for baggage in LON then again in KL.........
took their advise bkd aeroflot russian airlines instead worked out cheaper £403.99 for me and £479.99 for her-in-doors average down to about £440 still a tad expensive to hong kong
