Whats the difference between dvd and vcd ? Can DVD's be played on a vcd player ? I have some family movies from my last visit to LOS and would like to show them.

VCDs are just audio CDs (capacity up to 800MB) - the same media as music CDs are recorded on - with compressed MPEG-1 video and audio on them.

DVDs are a different media type altogether (though on the same size 12cm disc) and hold either 4.7GB (single layer) or 8.5GB (double layer) - up to 10 times the capacity of a CD.

DVD quality is a lot better than VCD.

A simple VCD player will not play DVDs, though most modern players can handle both VCD and DVD. You can pick up a DVD player that plays VCDs etc. for as little as 500 baht.
