    The Godfather of Kathmandu
    John Burdett

    Format: Paperback 464 pages
    Date of publication: December 2010
    Publisher: Corgi
    ISBN: 9780552153607

Thai police detective Sonchai Jitpleecheep is summoned to investigate the most shocking murder of his career. Solving it could mean a promotion but, still reeling from a personal tragedy, Sonchai is more interested in Tietsin, an exiled Tibetan lama living in Kathmandu.

But there are obstacles in Sonchai’s path to enlightenment. Police Colonel Vikorn and Army General Zinna are at war again for control over Bangkok’s network of illegal enterprises – and Tietsin has forty million dollars’ worth of heroin for sale.

With his life in increasing danger, Sonchai is put to the extreme test in John Burdett’s most inventive, darkly comic and wickedly entertaining novel yet.

The fourth novel in series continues in the same narrative style and remains a page turner that is difficult to put down but the actual plot line is perhaps the weakest so far.

But if you have enjoyed the first 3 you will enjoy this one.

I really enjoyed the 1st and the 2nd less so, but still a good yarn. The 3rd I found samey and OTT on 'mystique', but no doubt if I come across it, I will dip into the 4th!

My favourite of the 4 was Bangkok Tattoo. Couldn't really get into this one but still worth a look if you have read the others first

I would agree, BKK Tattoo and BKK Eight were good books, but the others were "same same but different" to quote the Tee Shirt and probably only interesting if you have visited LOS/BKK and read and liked the other books.

I have to agree guys the first book was great, very original, but the books after that have been too similar. I didn't even finish the 3rd and 4th in the series!
