My wife has been here almost 4 years now, and we will be applying for FLR(M) for the second time as family and business commitments have made it difficult to travel to college 3 times a week to do the ESOL. Am I right in thinking that this time she will need to do the A1 standard English test before applying for FLR(M)? Assuming this is the case, does anyone know of a test centre in the North Wales/Chester area? The local college does the ESOL courses but were unaware of the A1 test's existence. Rich.
We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.
Rich , am I missing something. Why is your wife not applying for settlement?
Because she would, as I understand, need to have either passed LITUK test or completed minimum of 1 year ESOL course.

The LITUK test cannot be taken orally as far as I know and therefore requires a standard of understanding written English that my wife doesn't have at present.
The LITUK test is not that fearsome, at least not if you spend quite a bit of time learning and practicing. Its multiple choice. So as long as she can read the questions its doable. Its only about £25. Just a suggestion. Also you can retake it many times.
We have looked at sample LITUK tests on the internet, she can read English considerably better than I can read Thai but definately not up to standard of this test.
