RSS Feed Thai Airways to launch Thai Smile Air

Thai Airways has finalised the brand name and route network of its “light premium” subsidiary airline.

The new carrier will be called Thai Smile Air, instead of Thai Wings, and will begin operations in July next year with domestic services from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport to destinations such as Ubon Ratchathani, Khon Kaen, Chiang Rai and Surat Thani.

    More info here.

Not that there's anything wrong with Nok Air but will be interesting to see if "Thai Smile Air" will resurrect the BKK-PHS route that TG used to cover.

....and then on to my local airport, Nan. Used to love that trip.....but once there were 12 people on a 737 that stopped at PHS to let 2 off. Not very economic I guess.

Nok seem to be doing ok as on my last three trips (bar the conned business seats one posted elsewhere) the planes were full and the wife who was supposed to meet me in BKK on the last LOS visit could not get a ticket so came from PHS to BKK by taxi

I wish they would launch Thai smile air from LHR to BKK with the same prices as EVA then we could all smile

You are correct wolfy but TG seem to think its better to divesify and run their own low cost airline again leaving Nok on their own however we will wait and see what transpires out of the announcement.

Whatever if it makes the BKK-PHS route cheaper it gets my vote although will miss the ladies in yellow

Geez, and it must of taken off from PHS, climbed for one minute twenty seconds and descended again for Nan. Agreed, not economical.

Might be marginally quicker to jog, colin, at a steady pace.

Excellent dan prefer wolfy's pic though however, never been fortunate enough to have been served by that Nok lady on my BKK-PHS flights
