I thought I read once that no Quantas plane has ever crashed, making them the safest airline to fly with. Anybody know if this still true?

Is there any suggestion that the Quantas maintainence 'strikers' attention to detail wasn't up to their usual standards?

    It's still true Dave.

Qantas have been "guilty" of out-sourcing maintenance work though and admit the work carried out by others hasn't been up to their normal high standard.

Nothing wrong with Qantas Lamai, engine problems can occur with any airliner. Happened on Etihad once, we had to turn round and go back to Ankara, the alternative at the time was Tehran and the pilot didn't fancy landing there even though it was nearer. I think all passengers agreed with him. This was on a twin engined 777. We had to wait 15 hours for parts to be flown in from Germany.

At least the 747 has 4 engines

They are BA do that bit and then Qantas take over BKK to Sydney under the codeshare and in reverse order on the way back.

1999 a Qantas 747 crashed on landing at Don Muang.

Qantas spent $100 million repairing this old 747-400 - WAY above its current full sale value. WHY?? So they could continue to claim in advertising they had never lost a jet aircraft in a crash.

Dave and Tia, So even though, they have had a plane that crashed, am I correct in saying they have had no crash fatalities in their entire history.

Thanks Phil. That seems to have blown this myth out of the water. The claim of Quantas, apparently is never to have lost an aircraft.

Not quite sure what that means. Maybe it means, they always know where it crashed.

    Dave.

It took over a year to rebuild the 747 so it could fly out of Don Muang.
Interesting reading the accident list.No fatalities since 1951.

There's a dormant canalabised "Phuket Air" 747 at PHS so maybe Qantas should buy it for parts

Ethiad have a 72 hour sale on at the moment for flights from the 5th November to 14th December.

    An example.
Fly from Manchester on the 11th Nov return the 28th Nov cost £379.20 inc tax
Good transit times too, just a couple of hours each way.

    Might help someone.

I have put this post in the wrong thread, could someone please move to the Latest
    Airfare Bargains 2011.

    Cheers

Owing to the reduction in flights to BKK fares seem to remain about the same..... Qatar, have an "upto 25% off" ticket offer on for the next day only .....

Booked this one today for travel in the next 10 days...

Good short connection times, MAN - BKK - MAN, Final price of £516.70 Booked direct with Qatar.

Had better, but short lead time, flights are looking a bit more busy, so jummped in.
