Default Heron Pub, Paddington [Thai Restaurant]

Sometime later this week me and the gf are hoping to hear back about her visa and her first visit to stay with me here in London. Somewhat premature therefore, but I have spent this boring afternoon googling around to find any Thai/Isan type places we could eat or drink. (not the generic Thai restaurants you see dotted around everywhere, something for expat thais.)

To my surprise I have stumbled across the "Heron" in Paddington, not far from where I am. This is a basement restaurant serving Isan food, has Isan Kareokee and the menu is in Thai!!

Every review describes it as impossible to believe you are in London. (with the stuffy heat, Thai menu and kareokee i can see why.)

Anyone had any experience of here? Positive?

I think this is the place that Nick/PriorityPress has been visiting and raving about - have a look for his thread about 'Thai restaurants in London'.

Chuff it. I was in London last weekend but never went anywhere near Paddington.

    Yep...you can't go wrong here

Go downstairs at the weekend (you may have to book).

Basement of a pub but great food.

I think they went to town...

15 of us went for my birthday and the food was £220.

    £20-25 for food easy.

Interesting to read about the Addies and Taste of Thai restaurants and their packed Kareokee clubs. If, as the writer says, it is packed with very wealthy Thai students, would 2 lowly Issan girls (her friend is here also) get a positive or hostile reception?

I know Thais can be very classed based but not sure how that translates when they are abroad?

Some funny comments, also a suggestion they only want Thai customers, illegal I should think.

Tried to go last night and the place has been closed because of a “cronic mice and cockroach infestation”.

    Very authentic.

I'm of the opinion we can sit around and talk meets all day.

How about a Saturday afternoon / evening meet in the next few weeks or so at The Heron?
