I have lost two close relatives(and a close work mate) to this hiddeous illness . Its a truly horrible way to go. I really hope medical science improves in the future. He always seemed to have a sensible approach to life in LOS. RIP

Good memories & good times with Dave. We had a good weekend in Bangkok a few years back when we went to watch his beloved Liverpool against Thailand. Also a few nights out in Pattaya at Thai music venues. He also gave me a great tour of his local area. He really enjoyed contributing to the forum. I can still smile at the comments he would make when reading some of the posts. He was one of life's "characters" and will be sadly missed. Thoughts are with Nee & family. God bless!

David (The Honourable member of Satahip) was cremated at the main Satahip Wat near to his home in Satahip this afternoon.


The funeral procession was led by Dave’s wife Nee, her son Bank and other members of their family.


The Thai UK forum was very well represented with Trevor and Sa (Handyman) coming from Chon Burri, Paul (MaoKang) coming from Khon Kaen, Colin (Storm Fishing) coming from BKK and Phil and Wan (Phetchy) ,myself and Wan ( Harvey at Home) coming from Pattaya.


There were many of Dave’s Farang and Thai friends from the pool league he used to run in Satahip who also attended along with neighbours and friends from his home Soi.


I was pleasantly surprised by the number of people who turned out to say a last goodbye and give their respects to our friend.


The funeral was a Buddhist ceremony, the temple was beautifully, decorated with an abundance of the most varied of wild flowers accompanied by Thai music


The atmosphere was not typical of most of the funerals that I have attended in the West.
This was my first experience of attending a Thai ceremony and I was a little surprised at the absence of all the grief and sadness that is usually apparent on these sad occasions, there was a sadness especially of course from his close family and all of us from the forum but the majority of those attending were happy and smiling which of course is in keeping with the Buddhist concept of Dave only passing through this mortal coil to emerge and be reborn in a much better place.


At the end of the ceremony and just before the coffin is placed in the furnace It is the custom for the coffin to be open so that those, who wish to can say a last goodbye and when It came my turn I placed a flower in his coffin and said my few words to him.


So this is the end of an era for those who knew him and his passing has left an emptiness and sadness that the old Curmudgeon would have heartily not approved of!


He was augmentative, rude and sometimes a pain in the neck.


However Dave was a very good man and a good friend, not just to me but to the many He helped on this forum and others by PM who possibly needed some little encouragement when things were going wrong for them.

Very well put Harvey. It was nice to see a good turn out for Dave, especially for his family to see a good gathering of friends. Unfortunately your photo doesn't do the surroundings justice, mind you at least you managed to get Phil's head in !!! Another little part of my life has changed ... He was a grumpy man ... It was his way ... He often used to talk to me like I was 10 !! Took me a while to accept this ... In the end I realized he didn't mean any harm. Need to remove his name from my phone and Skype contacts ... But not just yet.

I never met Dave, but would like to say thank you to Harvey, for the updates, and other posters, for sharing their memories and pictures of Dave.

Been on holiday and only just seen this sad news. Never met Dave and had some run-ins with him on this forum, although always felt that like e-mail, forum exchanges can get out of hand whereas talking about an issue over a few beers is much better. Would have liked to have met him and its a fine example to me, from what all the guys who did know him personally say about him, that never judge a book by its cover, a lesson I learnt long time ago.
I've great respect for different opinions - its important to just have an opinion - and Dave had strong ones, well thought out and clearly a guy who loved his fellow man. People like that should be treasured.
