    Question Thai Backing Band/Rehearsal Rooms

    Hi All,
Bit of a long shot this one and maybe a pie in the sky idea... As some may know I have/had a band here in the UK.. playing mainly original rock songs, and I have had the idea for a while to find some Thai musicians if we ever returned to Thailand, with this basic idea.. Find a group that already play together and ask them if they would learn some of my songs and do a short gig with me in a bar in Bangkok, providing that I could find a bar also that would put it on... I'd probably need them to learn about 8/10 songs and do a rehearsal. The band would be a Thai version of the UK band I currently have.

So the questions are if anyone can help?
Are there any rock style bar bands that anyone knows that I could approach?
Are there any rehearsal rooms/studios where I could go to look and find people?
And are there any rock bars,I could also look for muso's in or ask about a short gig?

Thanks I know this one is probably a bit of a long shot.
    Andy

I think you need post this in thai on one of the thai sites. Why not try posting on pantip or similar although I am sure there are more specialised sites. If you are in Pattaya you could try chatting to some of the bands that play in various locations. It/they might point you in the right direction at least.

    Google ?
If you're offended by any assistance I give, it says far more about you than it does me.

I asked a Bangkok-based mate (American) who plays in a band here about this and he said:

I would suggest he hit the open mic at Det 5 on Suk Soi 8. It is held every Monday night. He might find some folks there...
Lots of rehearsal studios around for sure. Very cheap.
He can contact me when he is in town. 089-xxx-xxxx
I'll PM the number if you want it.

Had some good nights out at Rock Pub (opposite Asia Hotel - I presume that's the one you mean?). Predominantly Thai, but another mate's band, B*****d, used to get regular gigs there - the Thais called them 'The Millionaire's Band' because they didn't want paying. They didn't seem averse to the odd farang getting up for a jam either.

When do you think you'll be there? The 4 July garden party thing has a succession of bands playing which are mostly farang or mixed farang-Thai, should be easy to make contacts there. Similarly, the UK equivalent, Ploenchit Fair, always has a few bands playing - probably at Bangkok Patana International School in November.

Not sure if the Fat Festival is on every year but that was an excellent 2-day event for independent bands of every genre, and the Pattaya International Music Festival (March) is well-established.
