Thanks Lucky but after reading the horror stories about people being locked up for having three poppy seeds that had fallen of a bun in their clothing, I'm looking to bale out of Middle East airlines altogether. If they are going to treat people that way, fair enough, its their country but its also my right to choose who I fly with.

First time I ever went to Thailand was on KLM - even closer for me as they fly from Leeds/Bradford. I've flown with them a couple of times over the years but their pricing is hit and miss. They have some flights around £450 this year but most of the time they are around £600 - £700 which is out of the question.

My next few flights will be on Etihad while I use up my miles and find another carrier. Companies seem to 'jump in' and 'jump out' of the pricing battle on the UK - BKK route, unfortunately from Manchester, Etihad & Emirates seem to have the most stable pricing. With the exception of Christmas I know I'll always be able to get a flight with either at £400 - £450.

Yeah, I booked with them back in February, going in May, 4 seats, me, the wife, son aged 4 and daughter aged 9 from Manchester the cost was £1,300 all in for the 4 of us.

A lot more to the story than the proverbial pots calling the kettle black:-
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ies-Qatar.html

Almost had Qatar flights booked recently too as they had some good deals on offer, hopefully it won't have too big an impact and could end up being a good thing if they all sort their acts out...

Well, taken a chance on flights for 4; 2 Adults, 1 Teenager and 1 Infant with Qatar in December and some pocket change from £1,350 all in, plus seats reserved with no extra charge :-) £390 per an adult was too good to miss.

Blimey, not heard about this. Just flown back with Oman and no "noise" about this at all that I was aware of.

Fingers crossed for you then Ian, it's a shame as Qatar used to be a great airline (when in my price range) and used them many times in the past.

From what I read if you book with BA you may be flying with Qatar

Whoever is in charge of the negotiating for the BA staffs union must have learned from Arthur Scargill, going on strike exactly when Qatar have a whole fleet available for hire.

Welcome back Gary. Last time we used them, a couple of years ago, they were still excellent, plus with the OneWorld alliance was able to get some additional benefits such as lounge and upstairs on the A380 for the Bangkok/Doha leg (thanks Tobias :-) ). We had some good prices through for December and then the news about the Middle Eat problem broke :-( Last week though at £390 per adult ticket it was too good to miss and that's flying from Birmingham so reduces the need for travel to Heathrow, and also 2 to 2 and a half hours stopover, so hope that things settle down.

Interesting to see in the news today that Qatar Air are helping out with BA flights rather than BA helping out with Qatar, due to the strike though and Qatar having a 20% stake in BA.

I thought it was all to do with the the middle east having a policy that they don't pay ransoms, which Qatar broke when they paid a ransom for Royal Family members that had been kidnapped.

    Helping BA out ?

It seems that the Qatar aircraft have been dubbed the grey armada. 9 x A320s I understand. Could it be that Qatar get to utilise spare aircraft, so why are they spare ? . A320 are short haul aircraft used in the middle east, maybe their aircraft are not welcome locally. Hope they train the Qatar crew how to sell sandwiches.

The Qatar Airways arrangement with British Airways is a wet lease agreement for nine A320 aircraft which were flown from Doha to London on 30th June.

Their initial routes from London are:

    A7-ADA: Brussels
    A7-ADB: Munich/Nice
    A7-ADC: Oslo/Krakow
    A7-ADD: Sofia/Madrid
    A7-ADE: tbc
    A7-ADF: Kiev
    A7-ADG: tbc
    A7-ADI: tbc
    A7-LAA: Zurich/Tallinn

This deal helps British Airways to mitigate the effects of the 16 day mixed-fleet cabin crew strike. It also allows Qatar to use some excess capacity as a result of restrictions on Qatar-registered flights to, from or through Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, and the UAE.

I think there is more to do with it than that., supporting terrorist and tv station shut down demands put on them by the four Tom has mentioned strange when us has a massive military presence usually in this area it's about the price of a barrel and I wouldn't believe politicians and media remember WMD very strange indeed and a very rich nation own most off london as I'm lead to believe bought the world cup and their flights consistently come in cheaper than anyone else I might be a million miles off but taken all this into account I would suggest it's about the price of a barrel

That opens a can of worms

Divide and rule/influences in the US from certain factions.

    Did anyone listen to this

Also our American cousins are not exactly over the moon about Qatar trying to buy a piece of AA
