Default Biometric Residence Permit card and no Passport Visa Sticker.

    Hi Peeps,

I have been away a very long time. A painful divorce with 1st Thai Wife.

I took the plunge again 8 years later and now happily married with my Thai Wife in England.

Last week she was successful in the her Residence Permit and was very proud of her Biometric residence Card.

I am probably wrong but there is no Visa Sticker in the returned Passport. I have looked on the UK.Gov site and it says......The holder is not required to carry their permit at all times, but they must show it at theborder, together with their passport, when travellingoutside of, and when returning to, the UK. The cardconfirms the date the holder’s leave expires, whetherthey have the right to work in the UK and otherrestrictions placed on the right to stay.

Is this the way it is now? I would like to do a few trips around Europe and worried. Has anybody else been in the same situation with no Passport sticker.

If someone could put my mind at rest I would be very grateful.
    Regards

    Terry

    Hi Terry,

The Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) replaced the old 30/33 month passport vignette stickers for initial entry clearance and for FLR in April 2015. That's why there is no visa sticker in your wife's returned passport. There's nothing to worry about.

Regarding trips around Europe, she'll need the appropriate tourist visa. The spouse of a citizen of an EU member state is entitled to a free Schengen visa for tourist visits to Schengen signatory states, and you'll find threads about this on this forum.

If the ILR is only in the passport as the old way it used to be and not in the form of a biometric card is this still legal . Could you still travel or should the card be applied for. Look forward to advice.

ILR in an expired passport, if coupled with a valid passport, is still good for travel.

However, new employers and new landlords will not except an ILR in an expired passport.
