Hi all, this is my first post, already finding the forum very useful and wish I had joined sooner but never knew you existed until recently!
My wife and step-son need to renew their passports before they go back to Thailand during the school summer holidays, and they have an appointment at the Embassy in London for the 12th April but there are some infuriating niggles that need clearing up beforehand.
My step-son is 12 years old and his parents never got married - so for applicants under 20 the following items are required:
- Current passport
- A photocopy of Thai House Registration or Thai Identity Card bearing 13-digit number
- A photocopy of Thai Birth Certificate
- A photocopy of Child Custody Document
- A photocopy of Parent’s Valid Passports
- A photocopy of Parent's’ Thai House Registration or Parents’ Thai Identity Card
In addition, both parents are required to accompany an applicant for a passport below the age of 20.
My wife no longer has any contact with her son's father - he lives in Thailand and we never hear from him. My wife has sole custody of her son.
Items 1,2,3 no problem.
Re: 3 - The birth certificate is blank where the name of the father would normally go and this is the document we used for my wife and step-sons original visas and FLR.
Re: item 4 - for these visas it was sufficient to state my wife had sole custody of her son. As far as I know she does not have a Child Custody Document (whatever that is). The current passport for my step-son was issued in Bangkok, and my wife tells me she wasn't asked for anything to do with her son's father prior to its issue.
Re: 5 & 6 - obviously no way we can obtain the father's passport and as he is a westerner he wouldn't have either of the items requested in 6. In addition, he certainly cannot be expected to suddenly materialise on the 12th April!
I'd be grateful for any suggestions or advice from members.
