Default Thai Passport expiry - wife in a panic

My wife's passport expires in July (6 weeks) and she is convinced she will not be able to leave Thailand or Enter the UK with her spouse visa. The uk border force website does state:

'have a valid passport for the duration of your stay'

But i'm sure that is for holidays and not settlement visas... Can anyone clarify the rules or point me in the direction of the official information?

Where is your wife now, and when/where will she obtain her passport?

She is in Bo Thong, Chonburi, we would like to fly to the UK 13th June and her passport expires 22nd July. The plan would be to get her new passport in the UK

She has two options: (1) she can get a new passport before returning home, keeping the old passport to show her visa to check-in and the Immigration Officer on arrival (shouldn’t be necessary); (2) apply for a new passport on return to the UK, but she will still need to keep the old passport containing the visa when she leaves the UK.

If she has a residence permit, that would make matters easier still. As she is a lawful resident of the UK, her passport only needs be valid on the date of arrival.

So this will be her first arrival in the UK using a settlement visa? If so, she should use the passport with the settlement visa and apply for a new passport once in the UK. As she is arriving in the UK as a lawful resident, her passport only needs to be valid on the day of arrival.

She must keep her old passport, this may be needed as proof of entry to the UK when applying for ILR or naturalisation in a little over 5 years time.

Darren. is not the "visa" in her passport a vignette or entry permit in which you have to enter the UK within a certain time. once here she collects her residence permit from a nominated post office. I believe the BRP is the visa. Used for many things ie confirming to an employer she can work, condirming to the nhs she is entitled to inpatient treatment. (some NHS hospitals are checking these days) proof of ID etc. As for renewing her Thai passport instructions are on the Thai Embassy website and will involve a trip to London to the Embassy. they will return her old passport http://www.thaiembassy.org/london/en...-Passport.html We did Leks last year, easy just the expense of a trip to London. However, sometimes the Embassy will visit temples, and run sessions there, details either from local temple or Embassy website.

Yes Stevie, I was just concerned we would get caught but an over zealous border force guy/gal and be refused entry. Feeling confident now to enter with her current passport, get the BRP and registrations done and then renew in London
