Default Loy Krathong in the UK

The misses is missing Thailand as winter approaches, would love to take her to a Loy Krathong party. Anyone know of any celebrations happening in the UK, preferably South West or London

There's also the Thai temple in Wanstead.

The Wimbledon Temple is one of the main centres for Thais in the UK, this event and the New Year event in April are extremely busy, lots of food and entertainment.

If your not coming by car then no need to worry about parking, that can be a challenge.

I would however advise to bring warm clothing if the weather is on the chilly side, for some reason the temple grounds are a couple of degrees colder, possibly as they dip down into a hollow where the stage is set up and people sit, handy to have something to sit on if you intend to stay more than a couple of hours.

We live in Bath so it would be a train or coach...Ket will probably freeze to death so I hope the som tam is spicy...

Nothing going on closer to home like Bristol, anyone?

Nok and I would recommend the Wimbledon event but we're biased as we're only a bus ride away. The Thai food is great and is real "taste of home" cuisine for Thais so the som tam will definitely tickle Ket's taste buds! The events are well worth it. We go every year to Loy Krathong and to Songkhran and at other times too to enjoy the temple and its beautiful grounds.

If you do decide to come, bring a picnic mat/rug so that you can stake out a spot near the stage to enjoy the proceedings.

Usually there are also a couple of Thai Met PCSOs/Police Officers at the Metropolitan Police Service stall near the entrance who give out freebies too such as chop sticks with the Metropolitan Police Service logo courtesy of the Chinese & south-east Asian MPS police association - these are very popular with the in-laws in Korat!

My suggestion as regards getting to the event is to travel to either Wimbledon train/tube station (Waterloo mainline/Clapham Junction mainline or District Line) or to Tooting Broadway tube station (Northern Line). You can take the 93 bus to the temple from Wimbledon station but it will be busy...however (insider knowledge here) it's a breeze from Tooting on the 493 bus to the bus stop just before Wimbledon tennis club/museum and then a 10 minute walk.

It sounds like a great event Tom, think I will have to make an effort and get up there.

    Thank's for the travel tips!
