As long as you book well in advance, Thai internal flights are pretty cheap already in my experience. But more competiton is a good thing. I fly Bangkok Airways and Thai Smile 95% of the time. Nok Air sometimes if I'm not carrying much baggage, which is rare ! It is the extra costs you need to watch out for on the very cheap ones.

Also later in 2020 the new southern airport in Betong (Yala Province) should be up and running, possible airlines in talks for flights are FireFly (Malaysian) Bangkok Airways and Nok Air.

Agree, I have already booked our internal flights to go to HCMC then Phu Quoc then back to BKK in July. I have only paid for 1 x 15kg checked baggage for the four of us for our 8 day trip. With having family in BKK we tend to leave some of our baggage in BKK so we can travel light, its surprising how it all adds up when there is four of us travelling.
